I feel like I literally have not had a proper second to sit down and actually text you a real life update in what feels like an absolute eternity. I am currently just laying upside down on my couch with my dog, drinking the most chaotic iced brown sugar oat milk espresso I could possibly make. It is finally Saturday and I am having a totally lazy, rot-in-bed kind of morning. The weather outside is actually so weird today for March. It is kind of sunny but there is this crazy cold wind hitting my living room windows, so I am just staying inside and completely avoiding all my adult responsibilities.
I know exactly what you are thinking right now. If you had told me a year ago that I would be voluntarily looking up dresses made out of the most unforgiving fabric on planet earth, I would have laughed right in your face. We both know how much I usually try to stick to thick, safe cotton or denim.
It is actually so funny because it totally reminds me of last year when we went to that fancy dinner at the tribal casino for my cousin’s 30th birthday. Do you remember what I wore? I had bought this super cheap, bright olive green satin slip dress from some random fast fashion site. I thought I looked so elegant and grown up. But literally five minutes after we sat down at the table, I picked up my water glass and one single, tiny drop of condensation fell right onto my stomach. Because it was cheap satin, that one drop of water instantly spread into what looked like a massive, dark grease stain! I was so mortified. I had to walk around the entire rest of the night holding my little clutch purse awkwardly over my belly button just to hide it. My older brother kept asking me if my stomach hurt because I was walking hunched over like a weirdo haha. It was a total disaster.
But despite that absolute trauma, seeing how people are styling them on Pinterest right now just completely changed my entire mindset. A good quality satin dress doesn’t do that. It just drapes over your curves so beautifully and makes you look like you have your life totally figured out. I feel like as we are getting older, I want clothes that are incredibly comfortable but still look expensive and intentional. So I spent my entire morning making a massive board of inspiration, and I need you to look through these with me. I put together all my absolute favorite looks.
Aesthetic Black And White Contrast
Okay please look at this first one. I think it is so crazy how a simple shiny dress can instantly look so incredibly cool and casual if you just pair it with a stark white layer. You literally have to try this vibe with your oversized white button-down shirt that you always wear. It just balances the fancy fabric perfectly and gives off this very cool, effortless street style vibe without looking like you are trying too hard to be fashionable. I feel like you could wear this to a museum date and look totally flawless.
Royal Blue Scoop Neck Magic
This royal blue is absolutely screaming my name right now. Jewel tones are always such a safe bet because they just look so rich and vibrant. I feel like this specific shade of blue would make our dark hair just pop so nicely. I would totally wear this to a summer wedding with some silver heels.
Joseph Ribkoff Pleated Perfection
Okay so this is exactly why I am obsessed with pleats right now. It literally looks amazing on absolutely every single body type because it gives the fabric some actual structure. And it is the ultimate food-baby dress! A pleated satin dress hides everything, so we can go out and eat as many tacos as we want without feeling self-conscious about our stomachs showing through the shiny fabric.
Champagne Satin Slip Elegance
Sometimes I honestly still feel like we are playing dress up, but an outfit like this actually makes me feel so elegant and womanly. It gives off major 90s rom-com energy. Like I am the main character in a movie who just wakes up looking flawless in her champagne slip.
Rust Satin Slip Dress Dreams
You already know I am an absolute sucker for anything in this burnt orange, rust color family. It honestly reminds me of that beautiful copper shawl my grandma made for me when I was a teenager. This color just looks so unbelievably gorgeous on brown skin, it literally makes us glow from the inside out. I am definitely ordering this exact one tonight, don’t even try to stop me.
How To Style A Pink Satin Dress
This is my absolute favorite way to style anything remotely girly. You take a super soft, feminine pink dress and then you just slap on a pair of heavy, chunky boots or oversized sneakers. The contrast between a super sweet dress and heavy streetwear shoes is just peak cool-girl aesthetic.
Coolness Calling Maxi Length
A maxi length in this fabric is just so dramatic and I am totally here for it. Imagine wearing this on a breezy evening and the fabric just flowing behind you like a cape. Main character energy for sure.
Chocolate Brown City Stroll
Brown is totally the new black this year and you cannot convince me otherwise. Plus, if I spill my iced coffee down the front of it while we are walking downtown, it will just completely blend in with the dark chocolate color! It is basically spill-proof fashion, which is honestly exactly what a clumsy person like me needs in her life right now.
White Silk Slip Rosie Huntington Vibes
This is exactly why I spend so much time on Pinterest. It just gives you the perfect high-fashion inspiration. A white silk dress is so incredibly intimidating to me because of the stain factor, but it just looks so rich and luxurious. I am absolutely saving this one for whenever we finally book that fancy beach resort trip we keep talking about.
Pretty Mermaid Lilac Pleats
Lilac is such a soft, dreamy color for spring. The mermaid cut is super flattering too because it hugs the hips just right before flaring out. I think this would look so pretty with your silver jewelry collection.
Dreamy Romantic Evening Look
This attitude and aesthetic is literally everything. I love outfits that just make you feel sultry and confident when you are walking into a dimly lit restaurant for a date. It is so effortless but completely mesmerizing at the same time.
Elegant Black Midi For Date Night
If the white dress scares me, the black dress is my ultimate safe space. You literally cannot mess up a black satin dress outfit. It is basically my uniform for when I am having a complete “I have absolutely nothing to wear” meltdown in my bedroom before we go out. You just put this on, add some gold hoops, and you are instantly ready to go.
White Satin Mini With A Neutral Blazer
I definitely need to actually sit down and figure out how to layer like this more often. Adding a structured, oversized blazer over a tiny little slip dress takes the outfit from looking like a nightgown to looking like an actual curated, boss-lady outfit. I still steal my dad’s old vintage blazers when I go back home just to try and recreate this exact vibe.
The Perfect Mirror Selfie Fit
I have such a soft spot for this casual, getting-ready aesthetic. You know how we always take a million mirror selfies in my messy room before we actually leave the apartment? A dress like this just looks so good in photos because the fabric catches the light perfectly. It gives off very mature, cool girl energy and I am so here for it.
Phew, okay, that was a whole lot of shiny dresses to dump on you all at once haha! I really hope I didn’t completely overwhelm your phone with this massive list of links.
