feel like I literally have not actually sat down and had a real talk in forever and it is driving me absolutely insane! I am currently just sitting out on my tiny fire escape balcony with a massive iced vanilla latte just trying to soak up the morning. The weather is actually so gorgeous today, there is this perfect little breeze but the sun feels amazing on my skin.
So listen, we really need to have a very serious talk about how my entire aesthetic is shifting right now. I know I literally change my personal style every single week on this blog, but hear me out on this one! I am officially entering my tomato girl outfit era. I know exactly what you are thinking. If you had told me a year ago that I would be voluntarily looking up clothes that look like I am about to go work in a garden in Italy, I would have laughed right in your face. We both know how much I usually try to stick to cute mini dresses or simple baggy streetwear. But something just completely shifted in my brain recently.
It is actually so funny because it totally reminds me of last fall when I was visiting my family back home. I saw this beautiful vibrant heirloom tomato at the farmers market on the reservation. It was so red and perfect and it just felt so connected to the earth. But then I tried to grow my own tomatoes on my tiny fire escape here in the city. Omg, what a joke. I literally got one tiny, shriveled little tomato and the rest of the plant just died. It was so sad. But despite my failure as a plant mommy, seeing how people are styling this whole “tomato girl” trend on Pinterest right now just completely changed my entire mindset. It is basically romanticizing that vibrant, fresh, connected-to-the-earth energy, but making it fashion. I want to look like I just spent the entire morning in a beautiful garden, eating fresh pasta and drinking wine with my family.
I put together all my absolute favorite looks so we can figure out how to style this trend without looking like we are wearing a Halloween costume. Grab your coffee, ignore your chores, and let’s go through them together! And true to our style, I’m always trying to figure out how to blend these Euro trends with our style, so maybe think about taking those ruffled white tops and pairing them with beadwork or turquoise to make it truly ours. It is about that connected, connected-to-the-earth energy, ne? Let’s see what you think!
20+ Tomato Girl Outfit Ideas You NEED to Try
Okay please look at this first one. I think it is so crazy how a simple little white top can instantly look so incredibly chic if you just pair it with the right shoes and accessories. It has that amazing, fresh, summery aesthetic. You totally have to try this vibe with your new sandals that you bought last month. It just balances perfectly and gives off this very cool, effortless vibe that says you don’t care about trends, you just care about looking connected-to-the-earth, ne?
Layering is basically an art form in this aesthetic. You have to start with a good base, like a clean white top, and then just throw a red shirt or a patterned skirt over it. It sounds like a lot of heavy clothes, but when it is done right, it looks so incredibly intentional and high-fashion. I honestly think anyone can pull this off.
This vibrant red color is just everything. I am telling you, that color automatically makes you look more confident and beautiful. Pair it with a simple white skirt and you are totally ready.
Omg these corset tops are such a mood. They give you that amazing, feminine shape but styling it totally casual with some loose pants and sneakers makes it so much more wearable. I might have to be brave and try this soon.
Gingham is so classic summer! Remember in high school when we tried to make matching gingham shorts with my grandma’s old sewing machine? They came out so crooked, I literally only wore them inside my house haha. But this look makes me want to try again, or just buy them properly made. It is just playful and fun energy.
A red skirt is just a mandatory requirement for this aesthetic. Look how beautifully it moves. I want a whole wardrobe in this shade.
I am absolutely obsessed with headscarves lately! It is the ultimate foolproof way to hide a bad hair day or when you are just way too lazy to wash it. You just wrap it up, put on some massive sunglasses, and you instantly look like a mysterious celebrity. We should totally start doing this when we go to the farmers market.
A woven bag is a total non-negotiable for this look. It just says you are ready for a picnic at a moment’s notice. Or a trip to the market to buy more tomatoes.
Gold jewelry is basically essential. You don’t need much, just some delicate layered chains and some hoops. It elevates any casual look.
Linen is just große Liebe, I basically live in it as soon as the temp goes over 70. Yes, it wrinkles if you even look at it wrong, but that is part of the relaxed, vacation charm. A matching linen set is such a cheat code for looking put together when the weather is absolutely terrible outside, ne?
Okay, another little white dress but I am so here for it. It just looks so incredibly cozy and clean. I’m pretty sure I wore something exactly like this formula almost every day of our college spring break trip. It just feels like pure vacation mode, even if I’m just sitting on my apartment balcony listening to city traffic.
A cherry print variation! It is so sweet and romantic. It’s like the little sister of the tomato print, which I love so much too.
Here we have a simple red tank and white skirt. I love the balance here. It is so comfortable but still makes a bold statement. I feel like you could wear this anywhere this spring or summer.
Another headscarf option. This time tied at the neck – so chic. It is such a simple accessory but it totally pulls the whole outfit together.
Okay, please look at this setting. The pasta, the wine… this is the goal. This is why we wear these outfits, to channel this energy.
Ruffles and ruffles and ruffles. This is giving very playful, youthful vibes. Pair it with some simple sandals and you are good to go.
But okay, speaking of white dresses, I have another absolutely horrifying story about wearing white. Do you remember when we went to that fancy Italian place downtown for your sister’s birthday last month? I had bought this perfect white linen babydoll dress – and I decided to order the spaghetti bolognese because I was apparently feeling dangerous. What a mistake. Within literally the first ten minutes, a massive glob of red sauce fell right onto my chest. I had to spend the rest of the night walking around looking like I got into a fight in the kitchen. Then your uncle saw me doing that and started laughing hysterically, asking if I was in pain. It was so mortifying haha. Since that exact moment, if I wear a white dress now, I am only ordering pizza that day, and maybe I refuse to sit down anywhere haha. But it just looks too good not to risk it sometimes, ne? I definitely want one exactly like this pin though.
Green gingham variation! It is just mandatory that you have a gingham option in your life. This one feels a bit more “granola girl” but still fits the connected aesthetic.
I am absolutely loving this total look! The hat, the big woven bag, the breezy dress – this is the ultimate vacation inspiration. We absolutely have to recreate this soon.
Simple red slip dress. The best thing is you can dress it up with heels or dress it down with sneakers. So versatile.
