9 Surprising Trends We AREN’T Wearing In 2026 Anymore

I’m currently right in the middle of clearing out my entire closet. Because of that exact reason, I’m checking very closely right now to figure out exactly what’s trending and what isn’t trending anymore.

I’m taking a really hard look at my wardrobe to decide what we actually need for 2026 and what can simply go straight into the trash or the donation bin. It’s such a massive project when you see all your clothes piled up on your bed. You start realizing how many weird phases you’ve gone through over the last few years.

The End of Baggy Jeans

We’re talking about baggy jeans, and yes, you heard that absolutely right. We simply aren’t wearing those massive baggy jeans anymore. Please don’t worry too much because we’re obviously still going to wear them to some extent.

However, we definitely aren’t wearing them in this huge proportion anymore. That means these specific pants where a second person could practically fit inside with you, well, they’re officially out of style. I know many of us totally lived in those giant pants for the last few years because they felt so incredibly comfortable. You could just hide your entire lower body inside them all day long without a single care in the world.

But the fashion industry’s decided we’ve pushed the extreme volume as far as it can possibly go. That extra fabric that always drags on the floor and swallows your shoes completely, well, that’s a look we’re finally leaving behind.

Rethinking the Blazer

Now we get to one thing I absolutely can’t understand at all. The forecasters say they’re supposed to go away completely, these really crazy oversized blazers. I’ve practically lived in my giant blazers, so this hurts my feelings a little bit.

But blazers aren’t going completely out of style, and they’ll actually stay somewhat oversized for now. But the entire trend in 2026 clearly moving much more in the direction of a defined silhouette. That means we’re emphasizing our figures a lot more again. That’s exactly what such a massive blazer simply doesn’t do.

When you put on a jacket that drops way past your shoulders and hangs all the way down to your knees, your actual body shape completely disappears underneath all that heavy material.

Goodbye to Plaid Shirt Jackets

Moving on to the next item, we aren’t wearing those plaid shirt jackets anymore. We just aren’t doing it. You know exactly the ones I’m talking about. They were absolutely everywhere for the last few autumn and winter seasons.

Everyone looked like a stylish lumberjack heading out to chop some firewood. While they were incredibly warm and really easy to throw over a basic t-shirt, the look’s just run its course entirely.

If you’ve got a closet totally full of these thick plaid jackets, you might want to pack them away in a box for a few years until the cycle eventually repeats itself. We’re keeping things much cleaner and moving away from that specific woodsy pattern. We’re choosing sleeker options instead.

Flat Soles Are Taking Over

One major thing I already brought up in my last article was thick soles on shoes. We’re definitely moving away from those chunky sneakers and all those heavily platformed shoes. We’re going straight back to a completely flat sole. Ah, the Adidas Sambas, for example, they’re exactly what I’m talking about here. We’re moving towards absolutely everything that’s got a totally flat profile.

Before you start yelling at me and complaining that they’re supposed to be out of style, please remember I didn’t make these trends myself. Yes, I’m only telling them to you so you can prepare yourselves. The era of the heavy dad shoe that makes you look two inches taller and feels like you’ve strapped cinder blocks to your feet, well, it’s fading fast. It’s all about a sleek and low-profile look now that feels much more athletic. It totally changes your outfit’s proportion.

Cleaner Denim Finishes

We won’t see this specific type of pants anymore either. It’s completely out of style and it’ll definitely stay out of style for the time being. We’ll definitely still see some rips, but absolutely not to this crazy extent anymore. We also aren’t doing these extreme washes anymore either. I’ll go into the topic of pants very closely in a totally separate post because there’s just so much to talk about regarding denim.

But for now, just know the heavily distressed denim that looks like it barely survived a wood chipper, well, it’s resting in peace. We want our jeans to look like actual quality garments again. Those super bleached out and acid-washed styles that look completely artificial, they’re being replaced by much cleaner denim looks. Raw finishes and solid colors, they’re taking over the denim scene entirely right now.

A New Era for Crop Tops

So, one thing I’m actually not sad about at all, well, it’s this specific type of crop top. We’re certainly still wearing crop tops, but we’re doing it quite differently. They just aren’t so skimpy and they aren’t so incredibly short anymore. My outfit’s getting wilder and wilder here as I talk about all this stuff. But truly, the micro-crop top trend was getting a bit out of hand for everyday wear.

We’re looking at tops that actually meet the waistband of your pants now. You don’t have to show off your entire stomach region all day long. It’s more about a sophisticated little peek of skin rather than completely exposing your whole midsection to the world. It feels much more wearable for everyday life, and you don’t have to constantly pull your shirt down every five seconds when you reach for something on a shelf.

Swapping Hats

We also aren’t participating in these kinds of hats anymore. I mean these bucket hats specifically. I could never really make friends with these bucket hats anyway, so I’m honestly perfectly fine with this change. We’re wearing caps instead of them now.

The classic baseball cap’s returned to save us on bad hair days. It just gives a much more structured and timeless vibe to a streetwear outfit than a floppy bucket hat ever could. The bucket hat always felt a little bit too much like you were heading to a muddy music festival or going fishing by the lake.

Upsizing Our Sunglasses

It totally breaks my heart that they’re supposed to be out, these tiny sunglasses. No, I really love these small sunglasses so much. I already said it in the last article, but they’re going to be big sunglasses from now on. We’re leaving the tiny little skinny frames behind us. Now we’re going back to those massive frames that cover half your face. It’s a very glamorous and dramatic look, but I’ll definitely miss my little shades.

Maturing Our Textures

Here’s another thing that’s supposed to go away. Teddy fabrics, they’re apparently on their way out. Allegedly, we’re moving over to wool and knitwear instead. They’ll obviously still be worn, coats and jackets in all sorts of variations. It’s exactly the same situation as the blazer and the pants and everything else we just discussed. It just won’t be quite as trendy to look like a walking stuffed animal anymore.

We’re going to wear similar other things instead of that fuzzy fleece material. I’ll explain exactly what they are, those similar other things, to you in great detail very soon in another post. We want more elevated textures that hold their shape better. Wool coats just look so much more expensive and put together.
