20 Primary Bedroom Ideas With Pretty Details Worth Saving

Looking for primary bedroom ideas that give you more to work with than plain white bedding? Think striped headboards, blue floral pillows and a little corner for your favorite chair.

These rooms have plenty of details to borrow, whether you’re changing the whole room or just what’s on your nightstand.

You can keep things simple or go all out with pattern. I especially love the window seats and colorful bedding here.

Start with the detail you like most, then build around it.

Primary Bedroom Inspiration to Make Your Own

curved stripes and a gray chair

We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous striped headboard. I love its curved top and how it stretches beyond the bed.

The gray rounded chair looks so pretty beside the little pale table.

Try a long gray accent pillow against white bedding to bring that chair color onto your bed.

canopy bed and a sitting area

How pretty is this canopy bed? The slender posts and curved details are lovely beneath that gold-colored chandelier.

There’s even a pair of pale armchairs and a round tufted ottoman at the foot of the bed.

If you have the space for a similar setup, add a dusty pink throw like the one draped over the chair.

dark beams and gray bedding

If you love a room with a tall ceiling, this one is for you. Dark beams cross the white ceiling above a ring-shaped chandelier.

The gray bedspread and olive-colored pillows keep the bed itself simple.

I especially love the two white chairs by the windows. The small dark table between them finishes this little sitting area.

blue florals by the window

I am obsessed with this blue-and-white bedroom. The floral pillows, patterned lamp and striped chair are all so pretty together.

The window seat may just be my favorite part. If you already have one, try a pale blue cushion with a mix of striped and floral pillows to follow this look.

bookshelves beside the bed

Want your books to be part of your bedroom decor? This wall of shelves gives you plenty of inspiration.

Books sit beside little framed pictures and potted greenery, with closed cupboards and drawers below.

Leave a few gaps between your books for favorite pictures rather than filling every shelf from end to end.

a fireplace and branching chandelier

This chandelier may just be one of my favorites here. I love the black branching arms against the pale paneled ceiling.

The tall fireplace wall with its gray-brown blocks is just as striking.

For a smaller detail to borrow, try an arched black mirror above your mantel with a little framed picture beside it.

floral walls and slim stripes

How cute is this floral room? The leafy pattern continues onto the sloping ceiling, while narrow vertical stripes cover the tall headboard behind the bed.

Try a green checked throw with white bedding if you want to bring in another pattern. The small bedside shelf with books and yellow flowers is worth saving too.

green panels and mustard yellow

The mustard yellow and rusty orange pairing is so pretty in this room. I love those colors against the dark gray-green paneled wall.

Start with white bedding, then add orange pillows and a mustard throw to try the combination yourself. The gold-colored wall lights with white globes are a lovely extra detail.

an ornate mirror over the dresser

Don’t want to add lots of color? No problem!

This room sticks to pale bedding, taupe curtains and a brown dresser, with a darker patterned rug below.

The mirror’s decorative top is my favorite detail. Pair a similar mirror with a large vase of flowering branches to dress up your dresser.

a headboard with heart-shaped scrolls

I am obsessed with this headboard. The heart-shaped scrolls in the center and the open diamond pattern across the footboard are just so pretty.

If your bed has this much detail, you can keep the bedding simple. White with a few beige pillows follows this room beautifully.

a picture ledge and rust pillows

Love displaying art but don’t want a whole gallery wall? Try a long picture ledge like this one.

Overlapping prints sit above the blue-gray lower wall, with small plants displayed along the ledge.

Those rust-colored pillows are such a good addition. I’d keep them with the white bedding and pale gray throw.

a simple canopy and oversized art

This is another gorgeous canopy bed, but it’s a little different from the one above. The straight tan frame sits beside a large horse landscape in a thin black frame.

I love the brown pillows mixed with gray stripes. You don’t need lots of little wall decorations when one picture gives you this much to look at.

leopard print and a gallery wall

If you are looking for lots of pattern, then this one is for you. There’s a leopard-print throw, floral pillows and a deep red patterned rug beneath the white bed.

The little gallery wall is so pretty between those tall mirrors. Try mixing frame sizes while keeping most of the frames in similar gold tones.

white panels and a tan bench

Don’t want to go overboard with color? This white paneled room has plenty of lovely details without it.

I especially love the tan bench at the foot of the bed and the tall arched mirror.

Add a pale floral pillow and a fringed throw to one end of your bench if you want to follow this arrangement.

a tree mural and a sitting corner

This little sitting corner is too pretty not to save. A pale upholstered chair sits behind a separate long, rounded ottoman.

The gray tree mural and white-shaded floor lamp look so lovely beside them.

The framed landscape on the dresser adds another picture without covering up the whole mural. I’d keep that layered detail.

a checked window seat

I love this window seat beside the French doors. The red and green checked pillows look so sweet with the tiny checked seat cushion.

You can borrow the pattern mix without adding a built-in seat. Try checked pillows on a bedroom chair with floral bedding nearby, just like the mix shown here.

a vanity between the windows

Want a little getting-ready spot in your bedroom? This brown vanity sits between tall windows with a three-part mirror and a blush-colored stool.

The flowers and small bottles make the top look lovely without filling every inch. For your own setup, choose a stool that fits beneath your vanity when you’re not using it.

a hanging bedside light

If you’re looking for an alternative to a bedside table lamp, take a look at this pendant. Its pale shade hangs above a one-drawer nightstand with flowers and a small stack of books.

I love the little blue cup beside the vase. It’s a sweet touch of color in this otherwise neutral corner.

navy walls and a red throw

This is such a pretty way to bring stronger colors into a bedroom. A navy paneled wall meets the red-brown brick wall behind the blue buttoned headboard.

Try a bright red throw over white bedding to borrow the color combination. Don’t forget a patterned accent pillow if you want that extra bit of color.

an arched mirror and wide dresser

Last but definitely not least, we have this neutral bedroom corner. I love the tall arched mirror beside the wide brown dresser!

The black drawer handles match the dark mirror frame.

A leafy tree stands between them, while the dresser top stays mostly clear. Try keeping your own dresser accessories to a small group if you like this simpler look.
