Looking for winter decor that's not christmas? Think snowy branches, blue plaid pillows and little lanterns rather than Santa signs.
These ideas give you plenty to work with, whether you’re changing up a shelf or filling an empty corner after the holiday decorations come down.
You can keep things simple or go all out with a winter mantel. A few pictures still include holiday touches, so I’ve pointed out what you could leave off for a look that’s less Christmas-specific.
Winter decorating ideas to try at home
pale branches and red berries
We’re starting off strong with these tall pale branches and bright red berries. I love the little cluster of pinecones around the neck of the clear vase.
Try a similar arrangement beside an entryway wall. If you want less of the classic Christmas color pairing, leave out the red stems and let the branches stand on their own.
navy plaid pillows
How cute is this navy and cream combination? The large plaid pillow sits in front of a darker checked one, with plain pillows filling out the arrangement.
Start with a checked pillow you love, then pull its colors into the others. The cream fringed edge is such a pretty little detail.
pinecones and a little lantern
If you’re looking for a centerpiece with lots of natural-looking details, this one is for you. Oversized pinecones surround a small square lantern, with pale branch pieces and greenery tucked throughout the tray.
I’d keep a candle-free lantern for this arrangement, or use a battery-operated light rather than a flame near the branches.
snowflakes across the mantel
I am obsessed with the little white houses on this mantel. The snowflakes and snowman carry the winter theme down to the hearth, while the banner spells out the season.
The miniature trees give it a holiday overlap. For your own version, try just the houses, snowflakes and banner if you want a clearer break from Christmas.
frosted wreath and black bow
This wreath may just be one of my favorites here. I love the cream berries against the white-dusted greenery and tiny pinecones.
The long black bow is worth keeping if you want to follow this look. There’s no need to add another color.
a tiny snowy forest
How adorable is that little white deer? It sits between snowy miniature trees and pinecones on a round raised tray.
The pictured candles have exposed flames close to the decorations. Recreate the arrangement with flameless pillars instead.
You can still keep the different candle heights.
glowing houses on white shelves
I love these little houses with their yellow-lit windows. Tall narrow trees sit between them, with a few green sprigs along the white shelves.
There’s a star-topped tree on the lower shelf that leans Christmas. Leave that piece off for your version and keep the simple village.
rust and cream pillows
Don’t want to decorate with snowflakes or miniature trees? No problem! Try this mix of rust, cream and brown plaid pillows instead.
My favorite part is the chunky looped detail beside the plain white pillow. You can bring in a similar pattern without changing every pillow on your sofa.
a skate and pinecone heart
There is so much to love in this porch display. The hanging white skate, tall sled and pinecone heart all bring something different to the corner.
Try greenery in a bucket beside a lantern to borrow a smaller part of the look. The basket underneath gives you another place to repeat those green branches.
a snowy tree picture
If you’re looking for a winter idea that keeps things simple, go with a picture like this snow-covered evergreen. The pale background leaves all the attention on the branches.
Try it in a plain frame on a shelf. I’d leave the space around it fairly empty.
greenery down the table
Who says you need ornaments for a pretty winter table? This arrangement mixes fine evergreen sprigs with rounded green leaves down the center.
Keep your plates and table covering simple if you want the same look. The greenery is lovely without bows or berries.
red checks and white chair covers
The red checked tables and shaggy white chair covers are so cute together. Little red berry arrangements repeat along the tables, with white plates at each setting.
This does have a festive red-and-white look. If you’d rather move away from that, try brown checked table coverings with bare branches in place of the berries.
two simple porch planters
Don’t want to go all out on your porch? Look no further because these two greenery-filled planters give you a lovely starting point.
I love how the tall dark container sits behind the low pale bowl. Keep the branches undecorated to follow this simple look.
green shoots in a footed bowl
This is such a pretty alternative to another vase of branches. Upright green shoots rise from a moss-covered arrangement in a large silver-colored footed bowl.
The image labels them as paperwhites, though there aren’t any open flowers visible yet. I’d borrow the bowl-and-greenery pairing for a dining table.
a sled with cascading greenery
I love the long sweep of greenery down this weathered sled. Red berries and white-dusted pinecones sit throughout the branches.
The greeting tags at the top are a Christmas detail, so this isn’t a non-Christmas display as shown. Leave those off in your version and consider skipping the red berries too.
icy leaves and dark berries
The dark berries against these frosted leaves are gorgeous. This wreath has a fuller, looser outline than the one above, with leafy stems hanging below the circle.
The large bells give it a holiday feel. For a January version, I’d leave them out and keep all that snowy-looking greenery.
a window-side reading corner
I am obsessed with the cream throw and rust-colored pillows in this little corner. The bare branch lights beside the brick wall are such a pretty touch.
Try battery-operated candles for your own windowsill arrangement. Keep throws clear of heaters rather than copying their placement beside the radiator here.
a bucket of snowballs
How cute are these pretend snowballs? A small bucket holds the white decorations, with red-and-black ribbon tied around it.
A labeled cork-topped jar sits beside it.
The bell and plaid bow at the back lean festive. You could leave those out and let the snowball bucket and white snowflake carry the display.
blue snowflakes and little houses
This navy snowflake pillow is one of my favorite details on the list. It looks so pretty beside the cream lettering pillow and brown patterned throw.

The gingerbread figure and decorated tree keep part of this corner Christmas-themed. For your version, remove those and keep the blue lamp, little houses and snowy pillows.
orange slices at the window
Last but definitely not least, we have these gorgeous orange slices hanging among green branches. I love how the daylight shines through the centers.
The red garland and little stars add a Christmas touch. Try just the orange slices and greenery if you want to borrow the window idea without those holiday details.
