New Year’s Eve decorations worth trying

colorful countdown balloons

We’re starting off strong with these super cute numbered balloons. I love the pink, purple and blue mixed with white. The gold numbers make the countdown part of the decoration.

Try arranging yours in a loose cluster like this, with little curls of ribbon hanging underneath.

shiny fringe backdrop

Want a little photo corner without decorating the whole room? This shiny fringe curtain is such a pretty starting point.

Black, gold and clear confetti balloons frame the upper corners.

Keep the middle open like this so you have room to pose in front of all that sparkle.

a bow on your glass

How cute is this little bow? The beige ribbon tied around the stem gives a plain flute something extra without covering up the glass.

Try the same detail on your party glasses. I’d leave the ribbon tails a little shorter if you’re setting them beside plates.

clear gems for a little sparkle

If you love sparkly details, these clear acrylic gems are worth a look. This picture shows the craft supplies rather than a finished decoration, so there’s room to choose your own idea.

For your table, you could arrange a few in a shallow decorative dish beside a centerpiece. Keep them separate from food and drinks.

colorful party headbands

I am obsessed with these headbands. The curly pink stems, colorful pom-poms and little New Year stars are just so cute together.

Set out a few beside your photo backdrop if you want decorations people can wear too. That big mirrored ball makes a pretty companion.

overlapping clock faces

The countdown fans are going to love this! These overlapping clock faces mix black, white and aged-looking cream, with part of a lettered banner across the display.

Try mixing large and small clock cutouts for your own version. I love that the numbers and hands don’t all match.

black and gold place settings

This table may just be one of my favorites here. The white plates look so pretty over the gold-colored chargers, with black New Year napkins on top.

A loose gold tinsel garland runs between the glasses. Try that detail if you want to decorate the middle without adding a tall centerpiece.

hanging ornaments and tiny lights

How pretty is this glowing display? Gold and silver ornaments sit inside a tall clear cylinder, with a few hanging from a small branch across the top.

I especially love the little lights winding around the ornaments. The greenery and round wood slice give you another way to reuse holiday decorations.

hats lips and bow ties

Give your photo corner some playful extras with hats, mustaches and a big gold bow tie. The red lips are such a cute pop of color among the black and gold.

The year props here say 2013, so use your celebration year if you’re making a similar set.

tiny gold bow garland

Don’t want to go overboard with your wall decorations? No problem!

These strands of little gold gift bows are a pretty idea all on their own.

You could drape a similar garland across a mirror or above your snack table. I’d keep the loose loops rather than pulling it straight.

an overhead balloon setup

Want to include a balloon drop in your countdown plans? This setup shows a large white sheet suspended overhead, with colorful balloons still scattered across the floor.

Treat it as inspiration rather than a complete tutorial. For any overhead setup, have an adult use a stable stepladder instead of copying the stool shown here.

disco balls under a dome

I am obsessed with these little mirrored balls. They look so pretty piled at the bottom of the tall clear dome, with plenty of empty space above them.

If you already have a display dome, try swapping its usual contents for small disco ornaments. You don’t need to fill the whole thing.

a dressed-up dessert table

If you are looking for a table with lots to look at, then this one is for you. There are tiered cupcakes, trays of sweets and shiny ornaments tucked among the serving pieces.

I love the large gold star hanging above it all. For a smaller version, try one tiered stand with a few decorative ornaments kept separate from the food.

gold ornaments in tall vessels

Don’t want a centerpiece with lots of different colors? Simply try gold ornaments in clear footed vessels like these.

The taller one sits at the back between the two shorter displays. I’d keep that arrangement if you’re decorating a console or side table.

silver ornaments and dark accents

This is another glowing ornament idea, but it’s a little different from the one above. I love the shiny silver balls beside the dark pinecone and flower-shaped accents.

Tiny lights run through the arrangement above a pale filler at the bottom. Keep those dark details if you want something beyond the usual all-gold look.

a bright happy new year banner

Who says you have to stick to black and gold? This bright banner mixes pink, yellow, green and orange, with a separate little flag for each letter.

Try the same two-row arrangement over your party table. The mismatched letter and flag colors are my favorite part.

white feathers and a gold runner

This table is so pretty! The long sparkling gold runner sits between white plates and black napkins, while tall black vases hold big white feathers.

If you want to borrow just one detail, try gold-colored napkin rings around black napkins. That little combination looks lovely against white.

pink yellow and orange balloons

This is the same balloon setup shown earlier, so here’s a closer look at the color idea rather than a different project. Pink, yellow and orange balloons sit alongside a few green and blue ones.

For your own party, you could use that mix in balloon clusters away from walkways instead of leaving them loose on the floor.

a glittery photo frame

How cute is this oversized photo prop? The black frame has glittery gold lettering, little red and pale stars, plus a bottle and glass decoration in one corner.

The example says 2017. Swap in your celebration year and keep the center open so you can pose behind it.

a gold ornament wreath

Last but definitely not least, we have this gold ornament wreath in progress. I love the mix of glittery, smooth and patterned baubles around the dark wire form.

If you’re planning your own version, try laying out those different finishes first. Keeping the colors similar lets all those little textures show.
