20 Throw Blanket Decor Ideas for Your Living Room

Looking for throw blanket decor living room ideas that go beyond folding one over the sofa? Try long cream fringe, a bright patterned throw or a basket beside your favorite chair.

These pictures give you plenty of ways to display your blankets, plus a trunk-table idea to consider alongside them.

You can keep things simple or go all out with layers. I especially love the mustard and cream combination below.

Start with a color you like, then decide whether you want your blankets neatly tucked away or out on display.

Living Room Throw Blanket Ideas to Try

cream loops and long fringe

We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous cream throw. I love the oversized loops and the long fringe hanging over the sofa’s edge.

Drape yours over one corner with a pale pillow beside it to follow this look. Leave some folds showing rather than straightening everything out.

rolled throws in a basket

Don’t want blankets covering your sofa? No problem! This round basket holds a plain cream roll beside a black-and-white zigzag one.

Place your basket beside the sofa arm so the patterns still show. The striped pillow above is such a cute finishing touch.

layered ottoman throws

How cute is this little fall arrangement? A pale cover hangs over the ottoman with a second beige throw laid diagonally across it. The round tray holds a white pumpkin, decorative balls and a little plant.

Try the same overlapping placement if you want both blankets to show.

blue plaid over stripes

The pattern lovers are going to love this! Instead of a small folded throw, there’s a blue-and-cream plaid blanket spread across most of the striped seat.

I especially love the blue in the rug beneath it. Keep a little of your upholstery visible if you want to try this mix.

a ladder full of fringe

This is actually one of my favorite blanket displays here. The blush, cream and taupe throws look so pretty hanging at different heights.

Try folding each blanket with its fringe facing out. If you’re placing a ladder near a working fireplace, keep the ladder and blankets safely away from heat and sparks.

brown ridges and a patterned pillow

I am obsessed with the raised rows on this brown throw. It runs from the sofa back right down over the seat, with a patterned pillow tucked beside it.

The black side table and white vase are lovely with these colors. You don’t need another blanket to make this corner feel finished.

tassels beside neutral pillows

How sweet are those big tassels? The cream throw sits beneath a row of beige and ivory pillows, with its ends trailing over the sofa edge.

Try a small rectangular pillow in front of your larger squares to follow this arrangement.

stripes in a wire basket

If you want your blanket storage to be part of the decor, this one is for you. The open basket shows off the striped throws instead of hiding them.

I love the black-and-white pillows standing behind the loose rolls. You could use the same idea beside a sofa, away from a working fireplace.

a simple ivory drape

Don’t want to add patterns or lots of accessories? Simply try this ivory throw over a gray sofa.

The small repeated loops and wide ribbed border give you plenty to look at on their own.

oversized loops on a reading chair

This reading chair may just be a favorite. I love the huge cream loops against the smaller pattern covering the chair, plus that little textured pillow.

For your own version, gather the throw over the seat but keep its ends out of the walking path. An open book is all the extra styling this spot needs.

orange and lilac swirls

Who says you have to stick to cream? This orange-and-lilac blanket looks so cute spread loosely across the pale chaise.

The rug repeats those same colors in broad stripes. Try picking up one color from your rug if you’re not sure which throw to choose.

a trunk-style coffee table

This picture takes a little detour from blankets: there isn’t a visible throw here. Instead, a brown trunk serves as a coffee table, topped with a tray, a small box and a candle.

If you wanted to bring a blanket into this arrangement, I’d drape a plain cream one over the chair behind it. That’s a suggested addition, not part of the pictured setup.

an all-over pale cover

If you like a loosely draped look, this one is for you. A pale cover extends across the sofa’s arm, seat and front, with two light pillows resting against the back.

I love the little bunch of red and yellow flowers beside it. Try a colorful vase arrangement if you want to keep your blankets neutral.

matching holiday plaid

How pretty are these matching chairs? The plaid throws run down the backs and over the seats, with burgundy plaid pillows in front.

You can follow this Christmas look by repeating the same blanket placement on two chairs. Let the fringed ends hang just below the seat cushions.

a colorful picture throw

I am obsessed with this colorful throw. The orange, blue and green shapes look so good against the caramel-colored sofa.

Spread a bold design across the chaise like this rather than folding it into a narrow strip. That way, you get to see more of the picture.

mustard and cream layers

This is such a pretty way to add color to a gray sofa. The mustard throw drapes down from the back while a smaller cream layer sits across the seat.

The mustard pillow is my favorite extra touch. Try matching one pillow to your brighter blanket instead of making every piece the same color.

a tall wall-mounted rack

Running out of floor space for baskets? This narrow wall-mounted rack holds a tall stack of folded blankets between dark rails.

There’s a mix of plain and patterned pieces here. Fold yours to a similar width if you want the stack to look a little neater.

big stitches and oversized tassels

I know the cream throws above are gorgeous, but this layered arrangement is another favorite. Mostly because those oversized tassels are so fun.

The big loops, shaggy white pillow and taupe patterned cushion each look different. Keep the colors close if you want to mix this many textures.

ivory beside animal print

Don’t want your throw competing with a patterned pillow? Go with a plain pale one like this.

It hangs beside a black-and-tan animal-print cushion, with dark pillows behind it.

I’d keep that same loose drape over the sofa arm. The pillow already brings plenty of pattern.

gray stripes on a window seat

Last but definitely not least, we have this pretty window seat. I love the gray-and-white striped throw with the curved pattern on the pillow.

Lay your blanket across one end of the cushion and let the fringe hang over the front. Leave the other end clear so there’s still room to sit.
