Looking for mantel decor with tv above that leaves room for more than the screen? A leafy vase, a few little pots or a simple garland can give you plenty to work with.
I especially love the arrangements that leave a little empty space.
You can keep things simple or go all out for the season. These pictures include TV-topped mantels plus a few artwork displays and console setups worth borrowing from.
Where there isn’t a TV above the fireplace, I’ll point that out.
Mantel and TV wall ideas worth saving
leafy branches and a cream vase
We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous cream vase and its tall leafy branches. I love how the arrangement sits beside the TV rather than directly underneath it.
If you’re collecting mantel decor ideas with tv above, save this simple combination. Try a low tray and a couple of small vessels beside your larger vase.
trailing plants around the screen
How pretty is all this greenery? Trailing plants surround the screen on shelves above a floating cabinet.
There’s no fireplace or mantel here, but it’s a lovely alternative TV wall.
For a mantel version, borrow the small potted plants along the bottom rather than trying to fit the whole shelf arrangement onto one ledge.
pink roses and an open ledge
If you are looking for something simple, this one is for you. Pink, white and deep red flowers sit at one end of the broad brown mantel, with a small grouping at the other.
The framed icy landscape above isn’t clearly identifiable as a TV. Either way, you can borrow the flowers and leave that lovely open stretch in the middle.
christmas greenery and big bows
I am obsessed with those oversized bows. The lit garland above the TV is so cute with the little white trees and greenery below.
This is a console display rather than a fireplace mantel. For your own mantel, try the lower garland arrangement with a few pale ornaments tucked between the branches.
one long sculptural accent
Don’t want to add lots of little decorations? No problem! This white mantel has one long, irregular brown accent beneath the TV.
The matching wall lights are my favorite part. With those already framing the screen, there’s no need to fill every inch of the ledge.
stacked shelves beside the tv
This is a different layout from the TV-over-mantel looks. The screen sits to the left while three brown shelves rise above the fireplace.
I love the little framed pictures and dark lantern on the upper shelves. If your TV is also off to one side, this gives you room to display taller pieces above the mantel.
a completely clear mantel
Don’t want to decorate the ledge at all? This simple white fireplace shows that you don’t have to.
The mantel is bare beneath the large screen, with a long dark firebox below.
Try leaving yours empty before buying more accessories. You might prefer it just like this.
carved details and stacks of books
If you love a little bit of everything, then this one is for you. There are sculpted busts, small plants and books filling the fireplace opening.
The carved surround is gorgeous all on its own.
The horse scene above could be artwork or a display; the image doesn’t establish which. Borrow the little mantel groupings without treating the book-filled opening as an arrangement for a working fireplace.
a broad brown mantel front
Sometimes the mantel itself is the detail worth saving. This close-up shows a broad brown box-shaped piece being held in front of the existing white mantel, directly below the TV.
It’s an in-progress view rather than a finished display. I’d keep any later accessories minimal so that broad front stays visible.
Installation and fireplace clearances need checking separately.
white vases against pale brick
This may just be one of my favorites here. I love the white vases against the pale brick, especially the taller one with leafy stems.
Group your vases at one end like this, then try a few upright books at the other. The space beneath the middle of the screen can stay clear.
a patterned panel above the beam
This fireplace keeps the mantel completely bare. Above it, a brown-framed panel has rows of small repeating patterns.
No TV is visible, so this isn’t a confirmed hidden-screen setup.
I love the dark beam against the pale, uneven wall. It’s a pretty reminder that you can let the fireplace details do the decorating.
trailing garland and gold-colored bells
How cute are those hanging bells? The greenery spills down one side of the white surround, with pinecones tucked in and a tall illuminated cone beside the TV.
Keep the off-center arrangement if you try a similar holiday look. Check your fireplace’s required clearances before adding hanging greenery, then use flameless candles for the lantern display.

gold-colored frames beside the fireplace
The gallery wall is my favorite part of this room. Large and small frames fill the wall beside the fireplace while the visible end of the mantel holds a gray vase with green stems.
If your mantel feels crowded, try moving some of the decorating onto the neighboring wall. You can keep the ledge much simpler that way.
black rectangles and a white wall
If you’re looking for something with no little accessories to arrange, go with this stripped-back idea. A black TV and slim soundbar sit above a long recessed fireplace.
There isn’t a traditional projecting mantel here. I’d leave the surrounding white surface bare rather than add a shelf just for decorations.
ferns and a little botanical picture
Calling all plant lovers, this one has plenty of inspo. I love the big fern at the right end of the mantel and the little botanical picture tucked below the TV.
Try a smaller mix of pots if your ledge is narrow. The plant sitting in front of the firebox is a detail to borrow only for a fireplace that isn’t in use.
black candleholders and trailing greenery
This is such a pretty way to mix greenery with a brown mantel. The trailing plant hangs at the left beside two black candleholders, while a smaller plant and framed sign sit on the right.

The matching lanterns below are a lovely extra touch. Choose flameless candles if you want to borrow that look.
orange pumpkins and fall leaves
How adorable is this fall mantel? Orange pumpkins line the ledge while a leafy garland dips across the front.
The dark TV above makes those autumn colors especially noticeable.
Mix a few different pumpkin sizes if you try this arrangement. Keep seasonal decorations outside the clearance area specified for your fireplace.
pale branches and a coastal picture
I love the pale branching shapes across this mantel. They sit beneath a framed coastal picture, with a green plant on the left and candles grouped toward the right.

This is an artwork-topped fireplace, not a visible TV setup. For a TV version, borrow the low horizontal arrangement and skip anything tall enough to cover the screen.
Use flameless candles near decorative branches.
a long ledge with small accents
Don’t want to go overboard with the decor? No problem!
This long brown mantel has a slim dark bottle on the left and a low rounded object on the right.
I love how much of the ledge stays empty. Try just two small accents before deciding whether your own mantel needs anything else.
tiny pots and decorated side shelves
Last but definitely not least, we have this simple brown mantel with two little dark pots at the right. A taller narrow accent sits at the opposite end beneath the TV.

The surrounding shelves hold the books, framed pictures and greenery. If you have built-ins too, let them carry most of your display and keep the mantel for a few favorites.
