20 Very Small Bedroom Ideas With Clever Storage and Pretty Details

Looking for very small bedroom ideas that leave room for your favorite things? Think drawers beneath the bed, little bedside shelves and a desk tucked under a loft.

These rooms give you plenty to work with, whether you need more storage or just want a prettier corner to wake up in.

You can keep things simple or go all out with pictures and plants. Start with the space you have, then pick the details you'd love to bring into your own room.

Small bedroom ideas worth saving

a desk beneath the loft

We’re starting off strong with this white loft bed and the little workspace underneath. I love the photos and pictures covering the wall behind the desk.

There’s even shelving beside the ladder.

If you’re planning a similar setup for a very small bedroom, check your ceiling clearance before choosing the bed.

a little bedside ledge

Don’t have space for a whole nightstand? This little ledge gives you another option.

The dark brown panel holds both the shelf and the lamp, with an alarm clock and a plant sitting below.

I’d keep the same small surface rather than squeezing a wider table beside the bed.

a bed inside an arch

How pretty is this sleeping nook? The arch frames the bed, with windows behind it and drawers tucked underneath.

I am in love with the pillows lined up along both sides.

If you already have an alcove, this is a lovely layout to bring to someone who designs built-ins.

drawers and a pale green wall

This is actually one of my favorite storage ideas here. The white bed has rows of drawers filled with folded clothes, so the space underneath isn’t going unused.

The pale green wall and simple hooks are so pretty together. Just leave enough space beside your bed to pull those drawers out.

two shelves above the bed

Who says you have to leave your favorite books and pictures out of a small room? These long shelves hold both, along with little plants and decorative pieces.

I especially love the botanical picture on the top shelf. Try wall lights like these if you’d rather leave your bedside tables free of lamps.

an arched mirror and hanging hooks

I am obsessed with this arched mirror. The shelf beside it has pictures and little decorations on top, with bags and clothes hanging from the hooks below.

That’s a cute way to give everyday pieces a place without adding another cabinet.

a bookcase beside the bed

This sleeping corner may just be my favorite one so far. I love the pink bedding and yellow bolster, plus that fan-shaped headboard.

The tall white bookcase separates the bed from the rest of the room. A pale curtain hangs on the other side if you like the idea of a more tucked-away nook.

a red wall lamp

If you are looking for one little detail to change, this one is for you. The rounded red wall lamp looks so cute above the striped pillows.

Mounting your light above the bedside surface leaves room for a book and a glass of water. No big nightstand needed.

a workspace by the windows

There’s so much to love in this little room. The bed sits along one wall while the desk fits beside the windows, with books on shelves overhead.

The yellow pillows are my favorite part. Try a pair on pale bedding if you want a little color without changing everything.

pockets inside the wardrobe

All those little things need a home too! This hanging organizer uses the inside of the wardrobe door for toiletries, brushes and other everyday items.

Try clear pockets if you like seeing what’s where. Check that your wardrobe door still closes once they’re filled.

sliding closet doors

Don’t want closet doors swinging into your room? These paneled doors slide along a black rail instead.

Inside, there are hanging rails and a tall stack of white drawers.

You’ll need clear wall space beside the opening for a similar setup, so measure that before getting attached to the idea.

dark walls and checked bedding

Put this in your “very small ideas bedroom” folder if you love darker colors. The brown wall looks gorgeous behind the checked bedding and little patterned pillows.

I’d keep the single framed picture and black wall lights just like this. You don’t have to fill every bit of wall.

pictures around the corner

If you love a gallery wall, then this one is for you. Pictures wrap around the bed, with even more frames sitting on two high white shelves.

The little red heart print is so cute. Mix frame sizes if you want to try this collected look rather than a matching grid.

bins beneath the bed

Here’s another way to use the space underneath your bed. Clear bins hold shoes and folded clothes, with a larger white pull-out box at the front.

Measure the gap beneath your bed before choosing containers. I’d group shoes separately from clothes so it’s easier to grab what you need.

a mirror with a pegboard

How cute is this little wall setup? A tall mirror sits beside a pegboard holding bags, a cap and tiny display shelves.

This is a lovely idea for that narrow patch of wall beside your door. Keep a few hooks for things you reach for often, then use a shelf for something just because you like it.

a tall mustard drawer unit

I love this mustard-colored drawer unit next to the wider brown dresser. The pink lamp on top makes the combination even prettier.

If you have a narrow gap left beside your dresser, look for a taller storage piece rather than trying to fit another wide one.

curtains behind the headboard

These pale curtains make such a pretty backdrop for the dark headboard. The little lamps on either side and the brown pillows bring the whole look together.

For a tighter room, I’d borrow the curtain idea but leave out the large bench at the foot of the bed.

storage around the sleeping nook

This is another gorgeous built-in bed, but there’s even more storage around this one. There are baskets in the top cubbies, books down the side and large drawers below.

I am obsessed with the blue checked bedding and patterned quilt. They add such a sweet touch beside the pale cabinets.

a raised bed with steps

If you are looking for a bigger layout change, then this one is worth saving. The raised bed sits above dark storage compartments, with broad steps along the right side.

I love the mustard rug against all that gray. This is a custom-platform idea to discuss with a qualified builder, rather than a quick furniture swap.

trailing plants above the bed

Last but definitely not least, we have this plant-filled bedroom. I am in love with the greenery trailing from the shelf above the white headboard!

The tall arched mirror and black-and-white bedding are lovely too. If you want a smaller version, start with one trailing plant on a securely mounted shelf.
