Looking for budget friendly room decor ideas that feel like you? A wall of favorite photos, a painted arch or a little plant corner gives you somewhere to start.
These pictures include full room setups and smaller details you can borrow without copying everything.
You can keep things simple or go all out with color. For budget friendly room decor, I’d start with what you already own, then choose one little change rather than a whole shopping list.
Room decor ideas worth saving
a gallery wall of favorites
We’re starting off strong with this fun gallery wall. I love the red pennant, hanging hat and record mixed in with all the framed pictures. You don’t have to stick to prints!
Try arranging your own keepsakes above the sofa before buying anything new. Different frame sizes fit right into this look.
flowers behind the shelves
How pretty is this floral backdrop? The fine flower outlines fill the space behind the shelves while the pale vases and little frames keep the display simple.

For a smaller version, try a leftover piece of patterned paper behind just one shelf. Leave a little space between your decorations like they’ve done here.
curtains of fairy lights
I am obsessed with these rows of little lights. The collage shows them behind beds and a TV, so there’s more than one place to borrow this idea.
If you’re collecting simple budget friendly room decor ideas, try lighting one blank wall rather than decorating the whole room.
a ladder full of plants
The plant fans are going to love this! Pots fill the ladder-style stand from top to bottom, with another leafy plant on the stool beside it.
Bring plants you already have into one corner if their light needs allow it. I’d keep the mix of white and dark pots rather than buying a matching set.
a green arch around a mirror
This painted arch may just be one of my favorites here. I love the dark green around the tall mirror, especially with the pink pot on the shelf above.
If you have leftover paint in a color you love, a similar arch could give your existing mirror a whole new backdrop.
a checked headboard
How cute is this checked headboard? The curved upper corners make the small green-and-cream pattern even prettier against those floral walls.
The picture shows the headboard being held up, not the full makeover process. Use it as inspiration for the shape and pattern if you’re planning to update one you already own.
three botanical prints
Don’t want to go all out with a busy gallery wall? No problem!
These three botanical prints sit neatly above a dark headboard, with pale bedding underneath.
For your own version, try three leaf pictures in frames you already have. You can borrow that one detail without replacing the bed or bedside tables.

a square-tiled mirror
I am in love with the tiny reflected squares on this wall piece. The light above it brings out the golden tones, with a small desk lamp and white bust below.
For a smaller take on the look, try a little mosaic-style mirror above your desk. There’s no need to match this oversized version.
colorful hanging stars
Who doesn’t love a little color overhead? These star garlands stretch across the ceiling and hang down beside a wall of pictures.
The yellow pillow is such a cute touch too.
Try making your own stars from paper you already have. Pick a few colors from your bedding if you want everything to feel connected.
a clear container to repurpose
Sometimes the starting point is this simple. The picture shows a clear container with vertical ridges, not a finished room decoration.
I’d use a similar container for pens or a few decorative stems on a desk. Check your cupboards first before adding another organizer to your shopping list.
a pale textured rug
Don’t want to add another pattern? This pale rug keeps things simple with its little rounded surface details.
It’s shown partly rolled out beside long curtains and a black floor lamp.

If a rug is already on your list, measure your space first so you can compare suitable sizes rather than guessing.
a curtain canopy
I am obsessed with this canopy. The pale curtains frame the bed, with scalloped trim and little hanging decorations across the top.
You don’t need to recreate every detail. A simpler curtain arrangement could be your starting point, using proper supports and keeping any lights clear of the draping.
staggered shelves and mirrors
This is another pretty way to fill a blank wall without covering every inch. I love how the two rectangular mirrors sit between shelves of different lengths.
Try rearranging your small pots, jars and frames before buying more accessories. The open space around them is worth keeping.
a personal picture collage
If your saved folder is called “room budget friendly decor ideas,” this photo collage deserves a spot in it. Pictures, sketches and little notes fill the wall without a matching frame around every piece.

Start with your own photos and postcards. I especially love the small botanical touches tucked between the pictures.
decorative lamp bases
That blue-and-white floral lamp base is so pretty! This display has lots of shapes to choose from, including tall gold-colored bases and curved white ones, all shown without shades.
If you’re shopping secondhand, compare the full cost of a base and suitable shade. Have used electrical parts checked before putting a lamp into service.
pink blossoms over a desk
How gorgeous is this little desk corner? Pink blossom branches curve up one side and overhead, with pale draping and little lights behind them.
For a simpler version, try a small blossom arrangement beside your desk. You can borrow the pink accents without recreating the entire arch.
a pegboard with personality
This is one of my favorite desk ideas on the list. The white pegboard holds headphones, pictures, small containers and a row of adorable hanging characters.
Keep everyday items within reach, then add your favorite photos between them. The little plant on the shelf is a lovely extra touch.
record covers on display
Let your record collection become part of your room decor. These covers sit facing forward on three wall racks, with the record player and more albums below.
I love the hanging plant beside them. If you already collect records, try displaying a few favorite covers instead of buying separate wall art.
a crate shelf corner
This little corner has so much to borrow. Open crates hold books and small decorations, with lights running around the shelves and plants sitting on top.
If you want to repurpose crates in a similar arrangement, make sure they’re sound and securely joined and anchored. Keep the heavier items low down.
a take-what-you-need board
Last but definitely not least, we have something a little different: a message board rather than a bedroom setup. Yellow pockets surround the words “Take What You Need,” with white daisies at the top.
For a shared room or study corner, you could adapt the idea with pockets of encouraging notes. Keep the bright yellow or choose colors from your own space.
