Looking for mood lighting room decor that goes beyond a lamp on your nightstand? Think glowing headboards, little moon lamps and a whole ceiling full of stars.
These rooms give you plenty to choose from, whether you like golden light or want to go all out with purple.
You can keep things simple or mix a few different lights. I especially love the small lamps tucked between books and plants.
Sometimes that’s the detail worth saving!
Room lighting ideas worth saving
a glowing headboard
We’re starting off with this simple headboard lighting idea. I love the thin line of golden light above the brown headboard.
There’s no big display here, just pale bedding and a little bedside lamp.

If you want a similar look, try concealed lighting behind the top edge of your headboard.
sunset colors above the bed
How pretty is this orange glow? The wall above the bed looks like a sunset, with yellow in the middle and reddish patches spreading out around it.
The bedside lamps add their own little pools of light.

Try a sunset-style light aimed above your pillows if you want to bring those colors into your bedroom.
vines and fairy lights
I am obsessed with this canopy. The trailing greenery and tiny lights are so cute together, especially with the patterned bedding underneath.
For your own version, frame the bed with light curtains and strands of greenery. Choose lights rated for that placement and follow their clearance instructions rather than wrapping just any lights through the canopy.
golden ripples on the walls
This little bedside light may just be one of my favorites here. Look at those golden patterns spreading across the wall and ceiling!
The framed botanical picture and tall plant look lovely against them.
Keep the surrounding wall fairly simple if you want a patterned light effect like this to be the main decoration.
round lights and low seating
If you love round lamps, there’s so much to save here. A large ribbed globe hangs beside the little table, with smaller glowing lights near the low chair.
My favorite part is the yellow light beneath the raised platform. Try adding a low-level glow to your own room rather than putting every light at eye level.
string lights around the ceiling
Don’t want to fill your nightstands with lamps? Look up instead!
These string lights follow the ceiling edges and continue down beside the curtains.
The plants, photo display and flower-shaped pillow make this bedroom extra cute. You could start with just the ceiling lights and keep your existing decor.
a sparkling bedside canopy
How gorgeous is this canopy above the tufted headboard? The little lights follow the curtains down both sides, with another strand running beneath the shelf.
I’d keep the sparkle around the headboard rather than across the bedding. For a similar tray display, use flameless candles and place it on a stable bedside table.
a purple gaming corner
The purple fans are going to love this! Bright lines trace the ceiling, room corner and desk edges, with posters filling the walls between them.
If you want your gaming setup to look a little different, try this single-color approach instead of mixing several colors at once.
an amber mushroom lamp
I am obsessed with this mushroom-shaped lamp. The amber dome and dark patterned base are so pretty beside the stacked books.
The leafy branches cast shadows on the wall behind it. Try a tall vase beside your own table lamp if you like that mix of light and silhouettes.
pink shelves and a purple tv glow
Who says your TV corner has to stick to one color? This one has purple light behind the screen, pink across the shelves and a yellow globe tucked into a lower cubby.
I love the little lamps at either end of the console. Pick one of these colors to start with if the whole combination feels like too much.
a little moon lamp
If you’re looking for something small and sweet, this one is for you. The moon-shaped light sits on a little stand beside books, a potted plant and a tall vase of flowers.
Those mottled details on the glowing sphere are my favorite part. You don’t need a whole space-themed room to try this.
sculptural lights and orange
There is so much to love in this orange-lit room. The tall stacked light beside the sofa is gorgeous, plus there are round hanging lights and a little glowing lamp on the red side table.

Try pairing one unusually shaped light with simpler round lamps if you want to borrow the idea without recreating the whole room.
a star-covered ceiling
Want to go all out with your bedroom lighting? This blue-purple ceiling is covered in tiny bright dots, with cloudy patches of blue between them.
I especially love the amber light by the window against all that blue. Try a star projector with a separate small lamp if you want the same two-color look.
slatted wall lights
Don’t want colorful bulbs or strings of lights? No problem!
These two brown wall lights have narrow vertical lines and a golden glow peeking out above and below.

The staggered heights make the pair a little more interesting. I’d keep the wall around them clear, just like this.
one lantern over a little table
This is such a pretty way to light a small seating corner. A rounded lantern hangs above a little table, with a low chair beside it and just a few objects on top.

You can keep the rest simple. A small vase with a single branch would be a lovely detail to borrow.
a golden ceiling border
If you prefer lighting that’s tucked out of sight, save this ceiling idea. The golden border follows the recessed edge while small square lights run down the center.
This is more of a renovation reference than a tabletop swap. Bring the image along when discussing concealed ceiling lighting for your space.
an orange mirror halo
I love this orange glow around the round mirror. The dresser is filled with bottles, little trays and flowers, but the light behind the mirror is what catches my eye.
Try a backlit mirror or suitable concealed lighting behind yours to get a similar halo. You can leave the rest of your dresser just how you like it.
a pleated lamp beside your chair
Don’t want to go overboard with lighting effects? This little table lamp is a lovely place to start.
The pleated shade glows beside a cup, a book and a small vase of flowers.

The armchair and botanical cushion behind it make the corner feel inviting. I’d choose this setup for a quiet reading spot.
curved glowing shelves
These shelves may just be my favorite way to combine lighting and decor. The rounded ends have a pale golden glow behind them, with books, plants and small vases spread across the shelves.
Leave a few gaps between your objects if you want to show off those illuminated curves.
red globes and a checkerboard rug
Last but definitely not least, we have this bold red bedroom lighting. I am obsessed with the oversized red globe overhead!
Smaller red lamps repeat the color around the bed and window.
The black-and-cream checkerboard rug is such a fun addition. Start with one red lamp if you want to try the look before committing to a large hanging light.
