20 Curb Appeal Before and After Looks and Front Yard Ideas

Looking for curb appeal before and after inspiration for your own home? A brighter entrance, a flower-filled border or a different garage door color gives you plenty to work with.

These pictures include full exterior makeovers plus smaller details worth saving.

You can keep things simple or go all out. I especially love the porches with room for a couple of chairs!

Not every picture shows a before view, but there’s something to borrow from each one.

Front entrances and exterior ideas worth saving

cream walls and a red path

We’re starting off strong with this pretty cream exterior and red walkway. The earlier view shows red brick and a bare front platform.

In the second picture, there’s a little white table set and a flower bed along the porch.

If you want to try one detail, pair a pale front door with a tall white planter like this one.

a doorway surrounded by green

How gorgeous is this entrance? I love the greenery spilling over the doorway and the pink flowers beside the steps.

The gray door and black shutters are just as pretty.

For a smaller version, try a rounded shrub in a planter on either side of your entrance. You don’t need to cover the whole facade to borrow that detail.

a framed porch and little bench

This porch makeover may just be one of my favorites here. The worn gray steps give way to gray treads with golden-brown risers.

Matching posts and open overhead beams frame the black door.

I especially love the little bench tucked against the wall. Add a patterned pillow if you want to follow that corner.

a curved flower border

If you are looking for a garden detail with lots of color, this one is for you. Red, purple and yellow flowers fill a curved bed with two rows of chunky tan edging.

Keep your shorter flowers near the front if you’d like a similar arrangement. Those little yellow blooms are too cute to hide.

dark trim and porch seating

Looking for curb appeal ideas before and after that keep the red brick? This pair gives you plenty to save.

The lower view combines the brick with dark trim, a dark garage door and golden-brown porch posts.

I love the chairs beneath the windows. The white flowers and curved planting bed give you another idea to borrow without copying the entire makeover.

white siding and black windows

I am obsessed with this black-and-white exterior. The tall front gable, black window frames and double front doors are so pretty together.

The porch seating stays simple with two chairs beside the windows. Try rounded potted shrubs near the outside edges if you want the same little touches of green.

brown shutters and a window box

Don’t want to change your whole entrance? No problem!

Take inspiration from this window with brown plank-style shutters and a matching flower box.

I love the little purple flowers peeking through the greenery. Choose a box in a similar brown shade if you want to bring those details together.

gray paving and neat edges

This is a lovely walkway to save if you like keeping the colors simple. Large gray rectangular pavers lead toward the steps, with smaller blocks along both sides.

The pebble-filled bed beside the shrubs is a pretty detail too. I’d keep the paving pattern as the main feature rather than adding lots of decorations along the path.

a cottage-style mailbox

How cute is this mailbox? The little peaked roof is my favorite part!

The pale box sits above a brown support with a hanging address sign underneath.

You could try a sign with your own house number below your mailbox. Keep the lettering white if you like how it looks against the brown background.

a black-and-white front porch

If you love a dramatic color change, then this one is for you. The yellow exterior becomes white above a black lower section, with a larger covered porch across the front.

I love the paired lights beside the dark door. The straight gray path and rows of small shrubs make the entrance look so different from the earlier view.

a black garage door

Don’t forget the garage when you’re saving exterior ideas. This one goes from beige with white trim to white with black windows, roofline trim and a black garage door.

The narrow planting bed along the side is worth a look too. Try a few spaced-out shrubs if you prefer this uncluttered arrangement.

sage green and potted flowers

This little green house is so cute! The second view trades the dark porch awning and pale shutters for a white-framed entrance and simpler window surrounds.

I especially love the pots lined up beneath the windows. Mix a few pot colors if you want that same collected look rather than an identical row.

a hillside full of flowers

There’s so much to love in this makeover, from the muted green exterior to the flowers beside the staircase. The yellow house in the first view has a much barer slope around its entrance.

My favorite part is the planting around the low walls. Save that mix of rounded white blooms, broad leaves and taller grasses if you’re planning a layered front garden.

wide steps and black railings

I am obsessed with this porch transformation. The pale walls, black horizontal railings and wide gray steps look gorgeous together.

There’s even room for two chairs beside the door.

The little lights beneath the step edges are worth saving too. If you’re considering a similar setup, include the lighting in your porch plans.

a green cottage door

How sweet is this cottage entrance? The earlier picture shows an overgrown facade and damaged window openings.

In the after view, white walls surround pale green windows and a matching door.

I love the flowers clustered around the entrance. Try grouping pots of different heights to borrow that detail for your own doorstep.

a brighter entrance at night

This is a good reminder to look at your entrance after dark too. The first view has a single bright porch bulb while much of the front stays in shadow.

In the second view, a hanging lantern, lights around the columns and little path lights spread the glow across the entrance. I’d save this one for the lighting arrangement alone.

a garden behind a slatted fence

If you are looking for a whole-yard makeover, then this one is for you. The chain-link fence and overgrown shrubs give way to a golden-brown slatted fence, a shaped lawn and flower-filled borders.

I love how the path branches toward the paved area on the right. The little shed is still part of the view, now with planting around it.

matching steps and a raised planter

This is another step makeover, but it’s a little different from the porch above. Narrow stacked rectangular pieces cover the stair fronts and the side planter, with broad gray caps on top.

The matching finish is my favorite part. A taller shrub between two smaller plants keeps the planter arrangement simple.

two looks on one brick wall

Want to keep the brick but change its look? This close-up shows a paler, mottled section on the left beside deeper red brick on the right.

The picture doesn’t establish which treatment was used. Save it as a color reference if you like that lighter finish, then check an appropriate approach for your own exterior.

a full-width porch and blue door

Last but definitely not least, we have this pretty front porch makeover. I love the blue-gray door!

The small exposed stoop becomes a covered porch with white posts, pale railings and brown handrails.

The potted ferns beside the door are a lovely finishing touch. Try a pair if you want a little greenery right at your entrance.
