20 Exterior Paint Color Trends and Pretty Palettes to Inspire Your Home

Looking for exterior paint color trends that go beyond another shade of gray? Sage green, deep navy and even pale pink give you plenty to choose from.

These homes show off everything from simple white trim to bright yellow doors.

You can keep things subtle or go all out with color. Start with a combination you love, then sample your shades beside the roof, windows and other details you’re keeping.

Exterior Color Ideas Worth Saving

sage green and white trim

We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous sage green house. I love the white porch columns and the little decorative details beneath the gable. The darker green door and shutters are just as pretty.

Try a slightly deeper green for your door if you want to keep this same gentle mix.

cream walls and dark outlines

If you are looking for a light exterior without going all white, this one is for you. Cream-colored walls sit beside dark window frames, roof edges and a matching garage door.

The brown porch ceiling is a lovely extra touch. Keep that color in mind if your entry needs something beyond black and cream.

deep navy and a brown door

I am obsessed with this navy exterior. The garage door and porch posts follow the same dark palette, while the pale window trim stands out above.

That golden-brown front door is my favorite part. Try a similar door color if you want a break from all the blue.

terracotta and cream

How gorgeous is this orange-toned terracotta? The cream window surrounds and wide band beneath the roof look so pretty against it.

There’s plenty of detail here without adding another paint color.

If you want to follow this combination, keep railings and lanterns dark like the ones shown.

charcoal with golden-brown doors

Don’t want lots of different colors on your house? No problem!

This charcoal exterior carries the dark shade across the steep gable, window frames and porch.

I love the golden-brown double doors and the shiny gold-colored planter beside them. Those are the details I’d keep.

olive green and honey-colored accents

This green house may just be one of my favorites here. The honey-colored porch posts, steps and window boxes are so cute together.

Even the porch swing follows the same palette.

Try black around the windows and front door if you want to recreate this combination.

soft beige from top to bottom

If you’re looking for a neutral exterior without bright white borders, go with a soft beige like this. The walls and balcony fronts stay close in color, with dark windows and a brown garage door breaking things up.

black siding and a yellow door

How cute is this yellow front door? Not gonna lie, it’s my favorite part of the whole entry!

The black siding, posts and window frames let that bright color stand on its own.

You don’t need colorful planters here. I’d stick with dark ones like these.

slate blue and creamy trim

Love blue but don’t want to go as dark as navy? Try this muted slate shade with creamy window trim and a matching pale door.

I especially love the small vent beneath the roof peak. Giving that detail the same light color as the trim makes it worth noticing.

sandy beige and charcoal

This is a simple color combination to build on. Sandy beige covers the walls, while charcoal frames the windows and fills the garage door.

The little dark planter beside the entry fits right in. Try repeating your trim color in an accessory rather than adding a new shade.

pale brick tones and dark brown

If you love a creamy exterior, save this palette. The pale brick-patterned walls have little patches of beige and gray rather than one flat color.

Dark brown roof trim and doors look lovely beside them.

For a painted variation, sample an off-white with your existing brown accents. You don’t have to copy the wall finish to borrow these colors.

white with a taupe gable

Don’t want to choose between white and taupe? You can use both!

This house has a bright white front section with taupe vertical siding in the taller gable.

Keep the trim dark around both sections if you want to try the same look. The dark garage door ties in nicely too.

deep teal and golden details

I am obsessed with this deep teal entry. Those round gold-colored lights are so pretty against the vertical siding.

The matching door has long golden details that make it a little different too.

If you’re choosing a bold wall color, this is a lovely reminder to give your door hardware some attention.

blush pink and white

How sweet is this pink house? The door is pink too, with a wide white surround and white window trim.

I love the black railings beside all those pale colors.

Ask for pale blush samples if you want something similar. Keep the door close to the wall color for this understated version of pink.

earthy tan and black frames

This is another tan-and-dark-trim idea, but the wall color looks a little deeper here. I love the black frames around those tall narrow windows.

The garage door follows the same dark palette. If you’d rather skip a colorful front door, this gives you a simple combination to work with.

bright white and brown roof accents

If you are looking for a white exterior with a little something extra, then this one is for you. The golden-brown details beneath the sloping roof are gorgeous above the white vertical siding.

The tall black-framed window is hard to miss. Keep surrounding colors simple if you have a window like this to show off.

powder blue and a white porch

I love this pale blue siding with the white porch posts and matching front door. It’s such a pretty alternative to the deeper blues above.

The black roof and little black porch light add darker touches. You could follow that detail with black door hardware too.

bold red and black

The red fans are going to love this! The vertical siding is a rich red, with black around the windows, double doors and roof edge.

I’d keep the lanterns and planters dark as well, just like they are here. That red doesn’t need another bright paint color beside it.

creamy white and brown shutters

This is another gorgeous pale exterior, with brown shutters adding something different. I love the arched front door and the brown details around the porch.

If your home already has brown shutters, try creamy white samples alongside them. The black window frames here show how you can include a darker accent too.

gray shingles and a golden-yellow door

Last but definitely not least, we have this adorable yellow-door entry. I love the gray shingle-patterned walls and thick white trim around that golden shade.

The black pendant and door handle keep the extra details simple. Try this combination if you want the brightest color right at your doorstep.
