Looking for laundry room ideas with top loader storage that leaves room to lift the lid? Narrow shelves, side cabinets and little basket stations give you plenty to work with.
This collection also includes front-loading rooms for their colors and storage details, not layouts to copy directly over your washer.
If your search for laundry room ideas top loader has you planning a makeover, start with one detail you love. Just check your washer’s open-lid clearance before adding anything above it.
Laundry room storage and decorating ideas to save
a raised-edge folding surface
How nice is this folding surface? The brown top has a raised edge around the back and sides, with taupe cabinets above.
The machines here are front-loading, so this isn't a countertop layout to copy over a top loader.
For your own room, try a similar surface beside the washer instead. I’d keep that lovely brown and taupe pairing.
little shelves on both sides
This may just be one of my favorite top-loader setups here. I love the little brown shelves running up both sides of the machines.
The baskets and green plants are so pretty against the pale walls.

Keep your shelf styling simple with a basket, a jar or a plant on each level. Leave the middle open like this rather than filling every inch.
hidden storage and pull-out space
There is so much going on in this cabinet setup! A basket sits on an extended platform beneath two raised front-loading machines, with oval openings down the tall cabinet on the left.

This arrangement isn't a direct fit for a top loader. Borrow the separate vertical storage idea if you're planning cabinets beside yours.
a basket tower in the middle
I am obsessed with this little basket station. Two white baskets sit between the dark machines, with a small brown worktop above them.
If you want a folding spot without covering your washer lid, this is a lovely idea to consider. The white upper cabinets and long shelves give you more storage without putting everything on that little worktop.
navy cabinets and checked floors
Who says you have to stick to white cabinets? The navy doors, gold-colored handles and large beige checked floor look so pretty together.
This room has front-loading machines beneath a counter. For a top-loader version, borrow the cabinet color and put your counter beside the washer, like the sink area here.
gray tile and a hanging rail
The dark gray tile is my favorite part of this room. It runs behind the white machines and all the way up to the shelf of checked baskets.
A short hanging rail sits between the two tall cabinets. Try that idea for spare hangers, with enough clear space below for your washer lid to open fully.
a laundry closet with sliding doors
Don't have a whole room to work with? This little laundry closet gives you a different starting point.
A white top loader and dryer sit behind gray sliding doors, with baskets on a shelf above.
I love how simple the inside is. You don't need lots of decorations to make a small laundry space look tidy.
a wall-mounted drying rack
How cute is this little drying corner? The white rack extends from the side wall, with clothes hanging in front of the machines.
The visible washer here is front-loading. If you're borrowing the rack idea for a top-loader room, place it away from the lid's opening path and check that it won't block your walkway.
a pegboard above the washer
If you love having little things in their own spot, this one is for you. The brown pegboard holds scissors, a paper roll and small white containers above the top loader.
There’s also a narrow cart beside the machine. I'd borrow that combination of wall storage and slim side storage before adding a big cabinet.
a separate folding and sorting station
This is such a pretty way to give laundry baskets a home. The round, lined baskets sit beneath a long brown counter, with more baskets tucked into the shelf above.
No machines are shown in this view. If you have a spare wall beside your top loader, a separate sorting station like this would let you keep the washer uncovered.
a pull-out beside the sink
That little pull-out cabinet is the detail I'd save here. Bottles sit in the open drawer beside the dark machines, just below the sink.

The gray upper cabinets and white rectangular tiles keep the rest simple. Try a side pull-out if you want your supplies tucked away rather than lined up above the washer.
pink paneling and blue flowers
I am obsessed with this pink and blue pairing. The pale pink wall paneling looks so cute beneath the oversized blue floral pattern and little framed pictures.
The machines shown are front-loading and sit on a raised base. Borrow the wall treatment for your top-loader room rather than treating that platform as a setup recommendation.
ornate shelves and pale green walls
These white shelves are just too pretty. I love the curled brackets, stacks of white towels and brown baskets against the pale green walls.
There’s a continuous counter over front-loading machines here. You can still try the decorative shelving beside a top loader, or above a separate folding area.
green cabinets and vertical slats
This green cabinet color may be my favorite one on the list. The round gold-colored knobs and brown vertical slats look gorgeous beside the white washer and dryer.
A shelf underneath the cabinets holds jars, checked baskets and a trailing plant. Before copying its height or depth, measure your top loader with the lid fully open.
white jars and one upper cabinet
Don't want to go all out with cabinets? No problem!
This room has one pale upper cabinet, a hanging rod and a narrow brown ledge behind the machines.
I love the white jars and neatly folded towels. Keep the ledge behind the controls rather than extending a worktop across the washer.
matching jars and blue scoops
Sometimes the little details are the ones worth saving. These matching clear jars have brown lids and bright blue scoops, with a basket sitting alongside them.
If you want a similar display, choose storage appropriate for the product and keep its label and safety information. Matching containers don't have to mean mystery contents.
a side spot for cleaning tools
Look at the cleaning tools hanging on the side of this cabinet. That's a useful little detail to borrow when you don't want them leaning in a corner.
The front-loading machines sit beneath a brown counter, so that part isn't a top-loader layout. Keep the side hooks and white cabinets with black handles as your inspiration instead.
black-and-white checks
I love this checked floor with the white paneled walls. The dark shelves, brown baskets and little green plants make the narrow room look so pretty.

The washer here is front-loading, but you don't need the same appliances to borrow the colors. Try the checked floor with white cabinets in your own laundry room.
a narrow supply cart
If you're looking for storage that doesn't go above your washer, this one is for you. The narrow brown cart has two open levels for bottles and a small surface on top.
Measure the gap beside your machine before choosing something similar. I'd keep the tallest bottles on the shelf with the most headroom, just like this.
green walls and woodland wallpaper
Last but definitely not least, we have this gorgeous green laundry room. I am in love with the dark woodland wallpaper and brown shelves.
The round mirror and gold-colored pendant are lovely little extras.
This is another front-loading setup to save for decorating inspiration. For your top-loader room, try the wallpaper on a wall beside the machine and keep the trailing plants clear of its lid.
