20 Balcony Decor Ideas for Small Spaces With Plants, Pretty Seating and Lights

Looking for balcony decor ideas for small spaces that leave you room to actually sit down? Little round tables, hanging plants and a few pretty cushions give you plenty to work with.

These pictures include narrow balconies plus a couple of plant displays you could adapt to your own space.

You can keep things simple or go all out with flowers and lights. I especially love the blue checked cushions and tiny wall-mounted table. Even one little corner is worth decorating!

Small balcony decorating ideas to try

blue checks and pink flowers

We’re starting off strong with these super cute blue checked cushions. I love them on the curved chairs, especially with the pink flowers along the railing.

Try a little round table between your chairs and add a vase of yellow and white flowers. The matching checked throw is a lovely extra touch.

striped cushions and patterned floors

How cute is this little seating corner? The pale cushioned pallet bench has red striped accents, with a whole mix of black-and-white patterns underfoot.

If you want to borrow the plant display, try a white slatted panel behind your seat. Those trailing leaves look so pretty around the little round mirror.

flowers from top to bottom

No room for a chair? This tiny balcony gives the space over to flowers instead.

There are purple blooms hanging above, coral flowers beside the doorway and long trails of greenery spilling through the railing.

I am obsessed with the pale yellow flowers between all that green. You could borrow just that color combination for a smaller railing display.

glowing bulbs and black chairs

If you love a balcony after dark, this one is for you. The glowing bulbs hang at different heights above two black open-frame chairs and a little round table.

Keep the cushions pale like these and add a fern beside the seating. Choose outdoor-rated lighting if you want to try a similar overhead arrangement.

a tiny wall-mounted table

Don’t want a big table taking over your balcony? No problem!

This wall-mounted design has space for two mugs and a little vase, with a single slatted chair opposite.

I love the plant tucked underneath. It gives that empty corner something pretty without adding another piece of furniture.

rows of hanging plants

This indoor plant wall is worth borrowing for a sheltered balcony. The pale pots hang in rows from thick cords, with trailing greenery and little red flowers mixed throughout.

You could try a smaller version on a blank wall with plants suited to your balcony’s light. Keep the pots off the floor if you need that space for seating.

a hanging chair and pale curtains

I am obsessed with this hanging chair. The pink patterned cushion is just so cute against the pale seat and fringed throw.

Long curtains frame the view while little potted plants line the railing. If you’re considering a suspended chair, have the support and mounting checked before copying this setup.

zebra stripes and floor cushions

Want something a little different from a bistro table and chairs? This balcony goes all out with zebra-striped flooring, patterned floor cushions and a gray pouf.

The brown roll-down screens are another detail worth saving. I’d keep the little row of colorful plant pots too.

a simple corner bench

This is a lovely way to use the far end of a narrow balcony. The slatted bench follows both walls, leaving a strip of dark square flooring open beside the railing.

Add a dark cushion and a geometric pillow if you want to follow this simple look. You don’t need a whole pile of accessories here.

a railing table with greenery

How sweet is this little spot for a drink? A narrow tabletop sits below a long planter, with chains visible at the sides and greenery rising above.

I love that the plants are right beside the open magazine. Look for a railing table designed to fit your particular railing if you want a similar setup.

one pot full of greenery

You don’t need a row of planters to make a little green corner. This deep blue pot brings together bright green leaves, purple foliage and little black plant markers.

The mixed leaf shapes are my favorite part. For your own version, choose plants with compatible light and watering needs rather than copying the labels as a planting guide.

lanterns around a corner seat

This may just be one of my favorite evening setups here. I love the lights around the tall plant panel and the lanterns beside the pale corner seat.

Try a small round table with a circular rug underneath to borrow the seating arrangement. Battery-operated lanterns would be a lovely way to add that glow.

green flooring and a bistro set

If you are looking for something simple, this one is for you. A round slatted table and two folding chairs sit along the glass wall, with bright green grass-look flooring underneath.

There aren’t lots of little decorations competing for space. I’d keep the tabletop just as clear for your morning mug.

knotted wall art and flowers

There is so much to love in this little corner. The fringed wall hanging, rust-colored cushion and round pouf look gorgeous beside all those flowers.

If you want to start small, borrow the wall hanging and one patterned cushion first. You can add hanging planters later without copying every detail at once.

square floor tiles and little tables

The floor may be my favorite part of this balcony. The slatted squares switch direction across the space, with a little bistro set at the far end and another table beside the door.

For a narrower balcony, I’d borrow just the far-end table and chairs. Keep your plants along the edges so you still have a clear route through.

a pale daybed and geometric rug

Don’t want to squeeze in several chairs? This pallet-style daybed gives you a different layout to try.

Pale cushions sit against the slatted back, with a black-and-white geometric rug in front.

The little black tray table is a cute finishing touch. Measure the space beside your door before choosing a seat this deep.

a leafy wall beside the seating

I love this tall leafy display beside the glass door. Ferns and trailing plants fill the panels while the pale loveseat sits at the end of the balcony.

The white flowers along the railing are just as pretty. Try a railing planter if you want more blooms without adding another pot to the walkway.

white flowers on a tall trellis

This one is a patio corner rather than a balcony, but the tall planter is a lovely idea to adapt. Little white flowers climb a black grid beside a pale chair and round side table.

For your balcony, try a suitably sized freestanding trellis planter. Check the allowed load before choosing a large filled container.

pale curtains and a flower table

Prefer just a few pretty touches? Two long pale curtains and a little round table are enough for this balcony.

I love the pink flowers beside the mug and notebook, with glasses resting on top. If you add curtains to your own balcony, give them secure tiebacks for windy days.

a dining nook under trailing plants

Last but definitely not least, we have this lovely little dining nook. I am obsessed with the greenery overhead!

The slatted bench sits behind a square table, with two chairs facing in from the sides.

The pale green cushions are worth keeping if you try this look. They look so pretty with all those trailing leaves.
