20 Outdoor Holiday Decor Ideas With Lights, Bows and Greenery

Looking for outdoor holiday decor ideas that go beyond a wreath on your door? Red bows, glowing reindeer and ornament-filled planters give you plenty to work with.

There are little porch details here as well as whole-yard displays if you want to go all out.

Start with your entryway or give the railing a little attention. Most of these looks lean Christmas, plus there’s a flower-covered gate for a different seasonal direction. Pick the details that suit your space.

Outdoor decorating ideas worth saving

red bows and little trees

We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous garland-framed porch. I love the big red bows across the top and the little lighted trees on either side of the steps.

Try a decorated wreath on your door to bring the same red accents into the middle. The greenery already does so much here.

an oversized ornament planter

How cute is that giant ornament? The silver openwork globe sits above shiny red baubles, berry sprigs and greenery spilling over a tall red pot.

If you want to try this arrangement, let a few branches stand upright behind the ornaments. Keep the longer greenery trailing down the front.

candy canes along the path

The candy cane fans are going to love this! Oversized red-and-white canes line the walkway with little lights wrapped around their curved tops and striped stems.

You don’t need to add a different decoration between every cane. I’d let that repeating stripe be the whole idea.

a sleigh on the porch

I am obsessed with this little porch sleigh. The red throw and checked cushion are so cute inside it, especially with the lighted trees nearby.

There are oversized ornaments and lanterns along the snowy steps too. For your own version, keep those decorations to the edges so the walking space stays clear.

lights on bare branches

Don’t want to add bows or ornaments to your yard? No problem!

These bare trees have white and golden lights following their trunks and branches.

I love that you can still see the shape of each tree. Choose one light color for your own display if you prefer a more uniform look.

doorway swags and black lanterns

If you are looking for something that leaves your doors uncovered, this one is for you. Long greenery swags frame the double doors with big red bows near the top.

The matching black lanterns are my favorite finishing touch. Try outdoor-rated battery candles for a similar arrangement.

reindeer with red bows

How adorable are these glowing reindeer? The open frames are covered in little lights, with red bows tied around their necks.

Place a pair beside your path rather than directly next to each other to follow this layout. There’s one near the front and another closer to the house.

a swag beside the garage

Don’t forget the garage when you’re decorating! This greenery arrangement surrounds a black wall lantern with long needles, pinecones and little red berries.

I especially love the bow with its long red tails. You could repeat that same ribbon at your front door without copying the entire arrangement.

pale branches and a plaid bow

This planter may just be one of my favorites here. I love the tall pale branches rising above the greenery, plus those big burgundy ornaments.

A red-and-white plaid bow hangs down the front. Keep that long ribbon detail if you want to try a similar overflowing arrangement.

checked rugs and rocking chairs

Who says the decorations have to stop at your door? These white rocking chairs sit on a red-and-white checked rug with plaid cushions and a deep red throw.

The little lighted tree tucked behind the chairs is so pretty. Start with a checked rug if you want to bring this much red into your own porch.

pale arches over the walkway

Want to decorate above the walkway instead of just beside it? This setup shows a row of pale arches being arranged over the path, with a stepladder nearby.

The repeated curved tops are the detail to borrow here. Before planning your own, check clearance and permission if the route includes a public sidewalk.

red and silver railing garland

I am obsessed with this railing garland. The red ribbon loops and silver ornaments look so cute against the dark greenery and white balusters.

Try spreading your ornaments along the full railing instead of saving them all for the ends. Finish with a larger ribbon loop near each post.

a wreath beneath the mailbox

This is such a pretty way to give the mailbox a little attention. A twig wreath hangs beneath it with greenery gathered along one side and a long red bow.

You can leave part of the wreath uncovered like this. There’s no need to fill every little gap.

a snowman and north pole sign

How cute is this snowman cutout? The gray hat has a bright pink flower, while the red-and-yellow scarf brings in even more color.

The striped post and “North Pole” sign make a sweet companion piece. If you’re choosing a spot for a similar pair, I’d keep them together rather than at opposite ends of the yard.

icicle lights around the porch

If you want to go all out with lights, then this one is for you. Cool white strands hang from the roofline while golden lights cover the railing garland, porch trees and shrubs below.

I love the red bows on the white posts. They give you something colorful to enjoy between all those lights.

a plaid-filled porch swing

This porch swing is just too cute. Red-and-black checks sit beside green plaid pillows and a white cushion, with berry-covered greenery running around the back.

The little wreath and hanging lights behind it are lovely too. You could start with the pillows if you’d rather leave your swing’s arms free of decorations.

daisies and gingham at the gate

Taking a break from Christmas colors and evergreens? This gate has a different seasonal feel, with white daisies, yellow centers and a red gingham bow.

It reads more like a spring or summer welcome than a winter holiday display. Save the wreath-and-bunting pairing for a celebration in the warmer months.

lanterns along the porch

If you love a simpler porch, take a look at these black lanterns. They’re grouped with greenery, red berries and rounded woven decorations beside the doorway.

The plaid-covered rocking chairs farther down the porch are a lovely extra touch. For your own lantern groups, vary the heights and use outdoor-rated battery candles near greenery.

golden lights on a balcony

No front yard? You still have plenty to decorate.

This balcony has glowing garland draped along the black railing with starburst-shaped lights above it.

I am in love with the golden glow against the dark bars. Try keeping your lights to one color if you want a similar look.

a glowing nativity display

Last but definitely not least, we have this colorful illuminated nativity scene. The figures gather around the manger beneath a yard full of lights, including a bright white tree and a lighted palm.

There’s a lot going on here! You could let the nativity stand on its own if you’d rather keep the surrounding yard simpler.
