Looking for farmhouse cottage decor with pretty patterns and little details worth copying? Think striped sofa pillows, floral curtains and open shelves filled with your favorite dishes.
These ideas take you from the kitchen to the front porch, with plenty of inspiration for the rooms in between.
You can keep things simple or go all out with flowers and checks. Start with a corner you’d like to change, whether that means hanging a few plates or giving your entryway a little attention.
Farmhouse Cottage Decor Ideas to Try
striped pillows and pale neutrals
We’re starting off strong with this pretty sofa tucked beneath the windows. I love the mix of thin stripes and large checks on the cream pillows.
Try a similar mix on your own sofa, then add a tall jug of branches nearby. The arrangement behind this one is such a lovely detail.
open shelves and a checked sink skirt
How cute is this kitchen? The shelves are filled with stacked plates, little pitchers and patterned dishes.
Even the wall space between them has framed pictures.
If you want to try one detail first, go with a checked skirt beneath your sink. The brown checks here look so pretty beside the white cabinets.
patchwork beneath the sloping ceiling
This bedroom may just be one of my favorites here. I love the patchwork quilt and the little floral pillow against that dark, curved bed frame.
Keep a small lamp and a framed picture on your bedside table to follow this look. You don’t need to fill every inch.
floral curtains and a green window
I am obsessed with these floral curtains. The pink flowers are so pretty against the pale background, plus that green window frame is a lovely surprise.
Try a small vase of flowers on the sill if you want to bring a little of the curtain pattern into the room.
rocking chairs and hanging flowers
If you are looking for a porch idea with plenty of flowers, this one is for you. Cream rocking chairs sit between hanging baskets, ferns and trailing greenery.
Add a little round table between your chairs for a mug or a book. Don’t forget a patterned pillow if you want to follow this setup.
mismatched dining chairs
Don’t want every dining chair to match? No problem! This long white table has a mix of brown and white chairs with different backs.
I especially love the curved chair on the left. Keep your tabletop simple with stacked dishes and a few candlesticks if you’re trying a similar mix.
little patterns in the bathroom
How pretty is this little bathroom? The small repeating wallpaper pattern sits above white paneling, with a large checked shower curtain beside it.
The tiny framed picture above the toilet is my favorite detail. Try adding a small piece of art instead of leaving that spot bare.
a pitcher full of stems
If you’re looking for a small display rather than a whole-room change, go with this idea. A white pitcher holds leafy stems, purple flower spikes and utensils, with a striped towel hanging over the front.
The stack of books underneath gives it a little extra height on the low chair.
a simple entryway ledge
Don’t want to go overboard with your entryway decor? This narrow ledge is a lovely starting point.
A framed landscape sits between a little plant and a candle displayed above a row of gold-colored hooks.
Try a basket below for shoes, just like the one here.
blue gingham and flowers
I am obsessed with this blue-and-white bedroom. The gingham headboard and bedding are so cute with the floral pillows.
If you want to go a step further, bring in striped curtains like these. The blue-and-white dishes beside the bed carry the colors into the smallest details.
red dishes and chipped white shelves
Calling all red lovers, this cupboard has so many pretty details to save. There are floral plates, a checked canister and even a little polka-dot cup.
I love the red apples piled onto the white stand. Group your own red-and-white pieces across a few shelves to try a similar display.
sage cabinets and a white sink
The sage green cabinets are gorgeous in this kitchen. I especially love them beside the orange-brown floor and the large white apron-front sink.
You don’t have to redo your whole kitchen to borrow an idea here. Try a few pots of greenery along the counter beneath your window.
a flower-filled reading nook
How cute is this window seat? There are books on both sides, floral pillows in the corners and a flower-patterned rug right below.
The short floral curtain is worth saving too. If you have a similar nook, try repeating one flower color in your pillows rather than matching every pattern.
flowers along a white picket fence
Take the cottage look outside with a flower-filled border like this one. I love the pink roses leaning over the white fence and the purple flowers growing along the front.
For your own version, choose plants suited to your garden conditions. Keep lower flowers near the path so you can still see the taller blooms behind them.
a chunky table and cream seating
If you are looking for a room without lots of floral prints, then this one is for you. The cream sofa and chair cushions keep things simple beside the big ceiling beams.
That chunky coffee table is my favorite part. A rounded vase of branches and a shallow bowl are all it needs on top.
sage paneling and hanging baskets
This is another pretty entryway idea, but it’s a little more decorated than the one above. I love the baskets hanging from the hooks and the pink pillow on the bench.
Try a flower-covered wreath at one end of your hook rail. The little string lights are a lovely extra touch if you want to follow this look.
an oval rug with dark seating
Have a dark sectional you want to keep? Take a little inspiration from this brown, cream and gray oval rug.
Its broad rings and braided pattern give you something different from the floral designs above.
The dog seems to have claimed the middle of this one, haha!
floral plates on the wall
I love this mix of floral plates. The pink and yellow roses are so pretty, especially beside the little framed portrait.
You can arrange your own plates around a picture rather than hanging them in straight rows. Add a wall basket of small flowers if you want that extra detail.
a cottage-style laundry corner
Even the laundry area gets a little cottage detail here. The pale floral wallpaper, open shelves and hanging garments make this corner quite different from a plain row of cabinets.
Try a small vase of purple flowers on your folding table. I also love the basket on the shelf above the washing machine.
blue checks and patterned plates
Last but definitely not least, we have this pretty blue-and-white kitchen. I am obsessed with the checked cabinet skirts and that blue rug with its scalloped border.
The patterned dishes on the open shelves tie the colors together. Add a pitcher of mixed flowers to your table if you want to bring in a little pink and purple too.
