20 Farmhouse Fireplace Decor Ideas With Wreaths, Mirrors and Seasonal Touches

Looking for farmhouse fireplace decor ideas that go beyond a sign above the mantel? Think leafy wreaths, big round mirrors and baskets beside white brick.

These fireplaces give you plenty to choose from, whether you like a simple shelf or a whole fall display.

You can keep things neutral or bring in a little seasonal color. Start with one detail you love, then work around it. For working fireplaces, keep decorations outside the required clearances and use flameless candles near greenery or other flammable decor.

Farmhouse Fireplace Looks Worth Saving

a wreath and tall lanterns

We’re starting off strong with this pretty wreath above a chunky brown mantel. I love the tall lanterns on either side and the white horizontal boards behind them.

If you want to bring the look into the rest of your room, try baskets with little potted plants beside the hearth.

layered pictures and white brick

How pretty is this arched fireplace opening? The white brick and pale mantel look so lovely with the landscape picture leaning above them.

Try overlapping a few smaller frames beside your main picture. Add a little vase of flowers and a short row of books rather than filling every bit of the shelf.

a basket beside the hearth

I am obsessed with this little hearth arrangement. The large basket holds split logs, a cream throw and evergreen branches, with a lantern sitting beside it.

For your own version, keep the basket and greenery well away from heat. A flameless pillar candle would give the lantern that same little glow.

a fireside nook

If you have a nook beside your fireplace, this one is worth saving. The built-in bench sits below shelves filled with books, baskets and a few small decorations.

I especially love the large animal portrait above the white mantel. A picture that size doesn't need lots of little things around it.

window frames and a round tray

Don't want to use a mirror above your mantel? No problem! Try tall window-style frames with a large round woven tray layered in front.

The white frames nearly blend into the wall here. A clear bottle on one side and a lantern on the other leave plenty of room for that pretty tray.

white brick and pale logs

If you're looking for something simple, go with this white brick fireplace and black wire log basket. The pale logs stand out so nicely against the dark opening.

For an unused fireplace, a small horizontal stack inside is another way to decorate without adding anything to the mantel.

a windmill-style centerpiece

This one really goes all out! The large windmill-style decoration fills the fireplace opening, with greenery spilling over the mantel above.

I love the pointed window-style frames behind the picture. Borrow those for your mantel if you like the look, but reserve the decoration across the opening for a fireplace that isn't in use.

white pumpkins and autumn flowers

This fall mantel may just be one of my favorites here. I love the little white pumpkins beside the dark candlesticks and those full arrangements of brown and rusty-colored flowers.

Layer a tall window-style frame behind a smaller picture to try the same setup. You don't have to fill the hearth to get this autumn look.

a fern wreath over a mirror

How gorgeous is this mirror with the fern wreath in front? The curved brown frame looks so pretty against the patchy white brick.

The teal glass pieces are a lovely little surprise too. If you want a touch of color without changing your whole mantel, try a small grouping like this.

a simple twig wreath

Don't want to go overboard with the decor? This one is for you.

A twig wreath hangs above a mostly bare mantel, with gray and beige stone surrounding the fireplace.

I love how much white wall is left around the wreath. Let one large decoration be enough if you prefer this simpler look.

a landscape and black candlesticks

I am obsessed with this landscape picture above the thick brown mantel. The black frame matches the candlesticks on the left, while leafy branches fill out the other side.

Try this arrangement with a favorite landscape print. Keep your candleholders at different heights like these for a little variety.

curved mantel brackets

Sometimes the detail worth saving is underneath the shelf. These large curved brackets have such a pretty shape, with worn-looking patches beside the smoother pale mantel.

If you're planning a mantel update, consider decorative brackets like these. This close-up is all about the shelf itself rather than an arrangement on top.

a weathered fire wood sign

Like a little lettering in your decor? This worn-looking “FIRE WOOD” sign keeps things simple with dark letters on a pale background.

I love how it sits across the white mantel front rather than leaning on the shelf. Try a similar placement on a decorative surround if you want to leave the top clear.

pumpkins and candlelight

How cute is this fall display? Pale pumpkins, orange pumpkins and braided pumpkin decorations fill the hearth, with glowing pillar candles tucked between them.

For a similar arrangement, use an inactive fireplace and flameless candles. Mix tall and squat pumpkins so the display isn't all one height.

red stockings and orange slices

This Christmas mantel is so pretty. I love the red stockings with white cuffs and the orange-slice garland hanging above them.

An arched gold-colored mirror sits behind little portraits and a larger framed picture. Keep those everyday pieces in place, then add seasonal greenery when you're ready to decorate.

a simple mantel below the tv

Have a TV above your fireplace and don't want to crowd it? Try this simple arrangement with a slim candleholder at each end and a small bowl in the middle.

The round green plants on the hearth are my favorite detail. Their matching shapes look so cute beside the white surround and narrow gray stonework.

greenery and draped beads

I am obsessed with this leafy mantel. The pale bead garland hangs in little curves below the greenery, with tan bows tied along the front.

The round mirror gets its own wreath too. If you want to follow this look, add white lanterns and dark candleholders at the ends, using flameless candles near the leaves.

an oversized open-face clock

If you are looking for something big above the mantel, this clock is for you. Its open black face lets the white horizontal boards show through.

I love the lanterns at either end of the dark shelf. Keep any sign or picture underneath the clock low enough that the two don't overlap.

black brick and bright greenery

Who says you have to stick to a white fireplace? This black brick version looks gorgeous with a round black-framed mirror and bright green branches.

The slim black candleholders beside the mirror stand out against the white wall. Try a gold-colored accessory beside your vase for a little shine like you see here.

a round mirror and fall pumpkins

Last but definitely not least, we have this pretty whitewashed brick fireplace. I love the round mirror above the rough-looking brown mantel and the tall branches on either side.

The pumpkins along the hearth bring in a little fall color. For a working fireplace, move your seasonal display beyond its required clearances and leave the screen unobstructed.
