Looking for outdoor metal wall decor to dress up a plain fence or patio wall? Bright flowers, curling sun rays and little flying birds give you plenty to choose from.
I especially love the colorful pieces tucked between real garden plants.
You can keep things simple with one decoration or go all out with a whole wall display. A few images here show indoor arrangements or close-up details rather than outdoor installations. Borrow their designs, but check that any piece you choose is suitable for your outdoor spot.
Wall decor ideas for your garden and patio
a smiling sun on brick
We’re starting off strong with this smiling sun. I love the blue-green coloring against the red brick, especially those long curling rays.
If you want to follow this look, give the sun a section of wall all to itself. The little raised dots around its face are plenty of decoration.
bright butterflies and a flower
How cute is this garden fence? The orange and blue butterflies sit on either side of a tall yellow-orange flower.
There’s already so much color before you even get to the plants below.
Try a similar grouping above a low garden bed so the wings stay in view.
a star surrounded by scrolls
If you love a big statement piece, this one is for you. A dark five-pointed star sits inside curling scrolls with little leafy details around the edges.
This arrangement is shown indoors above seating. For an outdoor version, look for a suitable piece with the same open scrollwork rather than assuming this exact one belongs outside.
a tree tucked beneath vines
This tree design may just be one of my favorites here. I love the tangled branches and roots inside the circle.
The silver-colored finish looks so pretty against the dark fence.
Let the surrounding greenery frame yours like this, with a little open space around the tree.
colorful flowers on a blue wall
I am obsessed with these oversized flowers. The red, yellow and turquoise petals look adorable on the blue wall, plus there’s a tiny bee above them!
The stems and grass are painted onto the wall below the raised flower heads. If you want to take a flower display a step further, that’s a lovely detail to borrow.
looping trails of birds
Who says you have to stop at one little bird? This indoor display has dark bird shapes sweeping across the wall in big looping trails.
For a smaller outdoor interpretation, try a short curved row of outdoor-suitable bird decorations. You don’t need to cover an entire wall to borrow the idea.
a sun among hanging planters
There’s so much to love along this narrow garden path. The dark sun face has wavy rays and a dotted surface, with hanging planters scattered along the corrugated fence.
I especially like the trailing greenery beside it. Try mixing one decorative piece with your planters instead of filling every gap with more wall art.
three colorful geckos
How adorable are these geckos? Their curled tails and bright little toes are my favorite parts.
Each one has a different mix of squiggles and dots.
Stagger yours down the wall like these rather than putting them in a straight line.
a dragonfly with dotted wings
Don’t want a whole collection and want something a little simpler? This dragonfly gives you plenty of detail in one piece.
Pale blue and peach-colored circles fill its dark outlined wings.
I’d keep the angled placement shown here. It’s such a pretty way to fill a patch of siding.
a station-style clock
If you’re looking for something other than flowers or animals, go with a station-style clock. This one projects from the shed on a curled black bracket, with Roman numerals around its pale face.
The pointed detail above the clock is a lovely finishing touch. Choose an outdoor-rated version if you want to try this on your own shed.
a gold-colored sunburst mirror
I love this round mirror with its overlapping pointed rays. The gold-colored frame looks gorgeous on the pale wall, especially with the garden reflected in the middle.
If you’re considering something similar, choose a mirror intended for outdoor use and plan its placement away from direct sun.
a wall full of patterned fish
The fish fans are going to love this! There are stripes, spots and scalloped patterns all across the siding.
Those oversized round eyes make the whole display even cuter.
Mix larger fish with smaller ones if you want this same playful arrangement. I’d definitely keep a yellow-and-blue spotted one.
golden birds on a dark fence
This is another pretty bird display, but it’s much more compact than the looping arrangement above. The gold and brown tones stand out so clearly against the nearly black fence.
Keep your grouping just above the surrounding plants if you like how this one sits between the tall leaves.
a grid filled with plant pots
Want the plants to be the decoration? This tall grid holds rows of terracotta-colored pots, with upright greenery and trailing leaves mixed throughout.

It’s a freestanding-looking framework in front of a fence rather than a small wall ornament. For a similar setup, choose a purpose-built plant support and secure it for the weight of filled pots.
a colorful sun and moon
I am obsessed with the patterns on this sun and moon. The blue crescent curves around a yellow face, with red, orange and green details running along the rays.
There are even tiny stars and flowers worked into the design. I’d leave the wall around this one plain so you can enjoy all those little details.
a branching black panel
Don’t want bright colors or a smiling sun? No problem!
This rectangular black panel has branching shapes that spread into finer lines around the edges.
It’s pictured in an indoor architectural setting. Borrow the black-on-gray pairing for your patio with a panel specifically suited to outdoor installation.
a lantern and welcome sign
Sometimes a simple entrance arrangement is all you need. Here, a dark wall lantern sits above and to the right of a tall pale welcome sign leaning against the siding.

The sign isn’t wall-mounted, so this is more of a porch styling idea than a hanging-art display. I love the large vertical letters beside the otherwise bare wall.
angular panels with climbing greenery
If you are looking for something that goes beyond a little wall decoration, then this one is for you. Dark panels cover a large area, with irregular angular openings and greenery peeking through.
This is a larger installation rather than a simple hanging piece. You could borrow the pattern with a smaller outdoor screen beside a climbing plant.

a hummingbird inside a circle
How sweet is this hummingbird design? Its long beak reaches toward the flowers while one raised wing extends beyond the circular outline.
I love the green shading on the bird beside the reddish flowers. A plain background like the one shown lets you see every little opening in the design.
sculpted brown flowers
Last but definitely not least, we have these gorgeous sculpted flowers. I love the broad brown petals and the little rounded tips on the stamens.
This close-up doesn’t show a wall mounting or an outdoor placement. Treat it as inspiration for a floral design to look for, especially if you prefer earthy colors over brightly painted petals.
