Looking for fireplace candle decor with a little something extra? Think gold-colored lanterns, rows of ivory candles or flowers trailing down the mantel.
These ideas give you plenty to choose from, whether you want to dress up an empty fireplace or decorate the shelf above it.
You can keep it simple or go all out. For arrangements near greenery, books, logs or other decorations, choose flameless candles. Keep any real flames clear of anything that can burn and never leave them unattended.
Fireplace Candle Ideas Worth Saving
gold lanterns and a leaning mirror
We’re starting off strong with these gorgeous gold-colored lanterns. I love the different heights and the large framed mirror behind them. There’s even another mirror above the mantel!
Try mixing tall candleholders with smaller lanterns at the front to follow this layered arrangement.
book stacks and ivory candles
How pretty is this carved fireplace? The ivory candles sit at different heights beside a narrow decorative grate, with stacked books filling the left side.
If you want to borrow the book-stack idea, use flameless pillars. Keep the covers in muted shades for the same understated look.
log rounds and little lights
If you are looking for a true eye-catcher, then this one is for you. There is so much going on, from the tall log sections inside the fireplace to the rounds spread across the floor.
I love the tiny lights tucked among all those different heights. Choose battery-operated candles for your own log display.
greenery and cream pillars
I am obsessed with this mantel arrangement. The cream pillars look so pretty above the trailing greenery, pinecones and little gold-colored ornaments.
Try flameless candles in several heights to recreate the full display. The pale abstract artwork above it is a lovely detail to borrow too.
ivory candles above and below
Don’t want to add lots of different colors? No problem!
This inspiration image keeps the candles ivory, with a full row on the mantel and another cluster in the opening.
The oversized gray vases beside the hearth are my favorite extra detail. One holds tall branches while the other stays empty.
stockings and gold framing
This Christmas mantel may just be one of my favorites here. I love the greenery dipping below the gold-colored mirror and the pale stockings hanging on either side.
The lanterns inside the fireplace bring the candle display down to the hearth. Keep that little pair if you’re trying a similar holiday arrangement.
little lights on stacked logs
Want the look of stacked logs with little points of light instead of a full fire? This display has tiny candle-shaped lights dotted across dark, bark-covered forms.
Choose a purpose-made flameless log display for this idea rather than placing real tea lights on firewood.
tall candles and dark flowers
I love this tall mirror with the dark fireplace surround. The pale vase of white and deep purple flowers sits between candle clusters on the mantel.
There’s another group of ivory pillars on the low table. Try repeating your candle color elsewhere in the room if you want to follow that detail.
mixed lanterns and fairy lights
How cute is this little lantern collection? The tall open-patterned lantern on the right sits beside smaller white, dark and gold-colored designs.
You don’t have to match every lantern. Add battery fairy lights around a flameless display if you want those little dots of light between them.
a round tray and pinecones
If you are looking for something simple to put together, this one is for you. Ivory pillars of different heights fill a shallow round tray, with pinecones tucked around the edges.
Use flameless versions if you’re keeping the pinecones this close. I’d leave the rest of the hearth plain.
red pink and blue candles
Who says you have to stick to white candles? This mantel moves from burgundy and pink on the left to ivory in the middle and blue on the right.
I especially love the mix of slim tapers and chunky pillars. Try a few different holder shapes rather than buying an entirely matching set.
bright bouquets and colorful pillars
This is another colorful candle idea, but it’s a little simpler than the one above. Short pillars run along the mantel beneath a framed abstract print.
The pink and yellow flowers are so pretty on either side. Pick a couple of candle colors from your own artwork to try the same idea.
tall holders and trailing greenery
I am obsessed with the greenery hanging down the left side of this mantel. The tall clear candleholders and tiny string lights are gorgeous beside the dark curved mirror.
Keep the uneven drape if you recreate this arrangement with flameless candles. You don’t need to make both ends look identical.
clear cylinders in different heights
Don’t want flowers, garlands or seasonal decorations? No problem there! Simply try ivory candles in clear cylinders of different heights.
I love how the shorter holders sit between the taller ones. There’s plenty to look at without adding another color.
stacked logs and autumn leaves
This autumn fireplace has so many cute little details. The opening is filled with log ends and string lights, while leaves and glowing pillars decorate the mantel.
The lantern on the hearth is a favorite too. For a similar unused-fireplace display, pair battery lights with flameless candles.
black surround and ivory pillars
If you’re looking for a candle arrangement that doesn’t need lots of accessories, go with this small group of ivory pillars inside a black surround. The different heights are enough on their own.
I’d keep the opening just like this rather than filling the whole space.
green spheres and large candles
How pretty is all this green against the black fireplace insert? The moss-like spheres sit beside large pale candles, with a rounded floral arrangement on the right.
Try flameless pillars for your version so you can keep the greenery nearby. Don’t forget a trailing strand of ivy if you love that extra detail.
a small mirror and plaid pumpkins
This is another lovely way to use a mirror inside an unused fireplace. The small gold-colored frame sits behind a mix of pillars, slim candles and little holders.
I love the plaid pumpkins at the edge of the tiled hearth. Add a pair beside your own flameless arrangement for a little fall detail.
candle clusters on side shelves
Don’t want to crowd the main mantel? Look to the side shelves instead.
Here, ivory candle clusters sit above and below a longer shelf holding framed pictures and plants.
The repeated candle color keeps this simple. Try flameless pillars on floating shelves to borrow the look without open flames beneath another ledge.
trailing flowers and slender tapers
Last but definitely not least, we have this gorgeous flower-filled fireplace. I am obsessed with the long trailing vines and the little deep pink blooms!
Slender candles and small glowing holders fill the hearth below. Choose flameless versions for your own floral display, especially where the greenery hangs down.
