Looking for lunar new year decor that goes beyond a lantern at the door? Think pink blossom branches, red-and-gold table settings and tiny ornaments tucked among your plants.
These ideas range from a simple vase of branches to a whole entryway dressed in red.
You can keep things simple or go all out. I especially love the little hanging lanterns and floral displays.
Start with a corner, your dinner table or the front door, then pick the details you’d love to bring home.

Lunar New Year Decorating Ideas to Save
red lantern and leafy entryway
We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous red entryway. I love the draped red decoration above the door and the oversized lantern overhead.
Even the plants have little red ornaments.
If you want to try a smaller version, start with a door decoration and a few hanging accents among your potted plants.
red and yellow window rosettes
How cute is this window? The big red rosettes have yellow centers, with smaller yellow ones scattered around the greeting.
Try clustering most of yours in one lower corner like this. Keep the Lunar New Year greeting in the open space and update the year rather than copying the one shown.
yellow blossoms and tiny lanterns
I am obsessed with this tall branch arrangement. There’s so much to love, from the yellow flowers to the little red lanterns and butterfly decorations.
Hang your ornaments at different heights if you want to follow this look. Those long outer branches give you plenty of room to spread them out.
red blossoms and gold leaves
If you are looking for a centerpiece without lots of hanging decorations, this one is for you. Red blossoms sit among open gold-colored leaf shapes in a striped vase.
The matching leaf design underneath is my favorite detail. I’d leave the rest of the table simple so you can enjoy the flowers.
long tassels at the front door
This is a front door that goes all out! The large diamond-shaped decoration has a bow above it and long red-and-gold strands below.
Red flowers fill both sides of the entrance.
I love the smaller wreath on the side window too. You could use that detail alone if a full doorway display feels like too much.
handprint-shaped dragon
How adorable is this dragon door? Its winding body is covered in overlapping red, orange and yellow hand shapes.
That big toothy grin makes it even cuter.
For your own version, arrange hand-shaped cutouts in a loose curve beneath a dragon face. Leave the handle clear so the door stays usable.
a tray with red and gold details
This tabletop arrangement has so many little details. White eggs surround a central orange, with rolled banknotes and gold-colored coins tucked between them.
A large red envelope stands behind the fruit.
If you’re borrowing the styling rather than following a family custom, you could keep it to a fruit bowl with a red envelope displayed behind it.
lantern lights and red envelopes
I love this decorated tree with its red envelopes and glowing lantern-shaped lights. The little lion heads are just too cute, especially the orange one at the top.
If you already have a decorative tree, try red envelopes among the branches for a similar look.
layered red and gold place settings
If you love a dressed-up dinner table, this one has plenty of ideas to save. The stacked red, gold-colored and white plates look so pretty beside the folded red napkins.
Try a decorative card on each plate to follow the arrangement. I’d keep the citrus and pink flowers too, with enough space left for the serving dishes.
orange flowers and citrus
The orange flowers and scattered citrus are so pretty together here. Red envelopes on the white plates bring another color into the setting without covering up the dark rims.
For your own table, use stable candleholders away from the flowers rather than copying the candles set into fruit. Battery-operated candles would be another lovely option.
a rosette wall above the cabinet
Don’t want to decorate the whole room? No problem! This group of red, peach and orange rosettes fills the wall above a small cabinet.
I love the decorated branches underneath. Try mixing large and small rosettes around one central hanging ornament to get a similar arrangement.
dragons and lanterns overhead
This hallway may just be one of my favorite spaces here. Red dragon decorations stretch across the ceiling, with round lanterns and tasselled ornaments hanging below.
Try alternating lantern shapes rather than choosing all identical ones. Keep everything high enough for people and doors to pass underneath.
bare branches and red knots
Don’t want to go overboard with flowers or lights? Look no further because this branch arrangement is for you.
The twisting dark branches hold red knotted ornaments with long tassels.
I love the silver-colored pitcher underneath. There’s no need to add much else to this one.
a colorful dragon and yellow lion
How striking is this display? The dragon has a bright blue face, pointed white teeth and a multicolored body.
Beside it, the yellow lion has oversized eyes and black-and-gold detailing.
These are large display pieces rather than a little tabletop project. For a smaller space, you could take inspiration from their bright colors with a miniature dragon or lion decoration.
a red-lidded sweets tray
Who doesn’t love a pretty snack display? This divided tray keeps the colorful wrapped sweets, gold-wrapped coins and little bars in separate sections.
The red wrappers in the middle tie in with the lid.
Try putting your own favorite treats in a divided serving tray. It’s a lovely way to bring a little more color to the table.
pink orchids and little fans
This orchid arrangement is absolutely gorgeous. I love the pale pink flowers above the gold-colored pot, especially with the tiny fan and pink tassels tucked below.
If you want a softer color combination, this is such a pretty one to save. Keep the ornaments lower down so they don’t hide the blooms.
blossoms and pineapple ornaments
Here’s another decorated branch idea, but this one has lots of little shapes to look at. There are red lanterns, pineapple ornaments and slim red cylinders hanging between the pale pink blossoms.
The pineapple decorations are my favorite part. Mix a few different ornaments into your branches if you like this more playful look.
big fans and a parasol topper
If you are looking for an all-out decorative tree, then this one is for you. Large red fans sit around the branches, with white blossoms, small lights and a pink parasol above.
This display mixes decorative references, so I’d borrow the fan-and-blossom arrangement rather than copy every lantern. Choose ornaments suited to the celebration you observe.
red flowers and a little cat
How cute is the little white cat tucked into this wreath? The deep red flowers, berry-like accents and gold-colored leaf outlines make such a pretty combination.

pink blossoms and a gold dragon
Last but definitely not least, we have this red-and-gold tabletop display. I love the pink blossoms above the gold-colored dragon!
Red envelopes and tiny lanterns hang from the branches.

A rectangular tray gathers the smaller ornaments and oranges underneath. Try that idea if you want to group several decorations together without spreading them across the whole table.
