Looking for year round fireplace mantel decor that doesn’t need changing with every holiday? Think big mirrors, leafy branches and a few favorite framed pictures.
You can keep the shelf simple or fill it with little details you love.
These ideas include decorated mantels plus a few nearby displays you could adapt. There’s even a spring arrangement with a simple change for the rest of the year.
For working fireplaces, keep decorations clear of the opening and follow the required fire clearances.
Fireplace mantel ideas worth saving
round mirror and golden candles
We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous round mirror and golden-yellow candles. I love the curved amber holders on the right.
The little gold-tone bowl in the middle is just as pretty.
Try a large round mirror above your own mantel, then keep the decorations low enough to leave most of it showing.
misty artwork and stacked books
This misty landscape may just be one of my favorites here. The tall frame takes up most of the space above the fireplace, with branches and a lantern on one side.
If you’re collecting year round fireplace decor mantel ideas, save this combination of books, greenery and dark candleholders. You don’t need matching objects at both ends.
a leafy hearth accent
How cute is this little tree in its cream pot? The narrow leaves and dark oval fruits look lovely beside the varied gray and tan fireplace surround.
This one is a hearth detail rather than a mantel display. For a similar touch up on your shelf, try a much smaller leafy arrangement that fits securely.
neutral books and layered frames
I am obsessed with this neutral arrangement. The oversized abstract artwork is so pretty above the broad brown mantel, especially with those little stacks of pale books.
Try a small framed photo on one stack and a dark vase on another. Don’t forget a little trailing branch or a small plant if you want that same touch of green.

a tall figure and earthy vases
If you are looking for something a little different, this one is for you. A slender black figure stands in front of cream, tan and black artwork, with a group of candlesticks to the left.
I love the large brown vase full of leafy stems. The two tiny pale vases beside it are such a cute detail.
greenery and draped beads
Want to go all out with greenery? This mantel has a leafy garland across the shelf and a wreath over the round mirror.
White lanterns and tall candleholders sit at either end.
The pale bead swags are my favorite part. For a working fireplace, I’d keep the greenery and tassels up on the shelf rather than hanging down toward the opening.

sculptural faces and dark art
Don’t want to add flowers or candles? No problem!
Try a small collection of sculptures like this one, with face designs, carved-looking patterns and a pale looping figure.
The dark rectangular artwork above them keeps the wall simple. Give each piece a little room instead of filling every gap.
layered pictures and a little bust
This is one of my favorite picture displays on the list. I love how the small portraits sit beneath the oversized dark artwork, with a pale bust in front of another leaning frame.

Try mixing black and gold-tone frames if you want this collected look. Secure overlapping frames so they won’t slip off the shelf.
arched mirror and shaded lights
How gorgeous is this ornate mirror? The tall arched frame sits between two matching shaded lights, with greenery stretching across the mantel underneath.
Keep the mirror and lights if you want a similar year-round arrangement. A shorter sweep of greenery would be a lovely option if you’d rather leave the carved ends of your mantel showing.
tall branches and a slim mirror
If you’re looking for a mantel that doesn’t need lots of little accessories, go with this idea. Tall leafy branches fill a pale vase beside a slim arched mirror.
A short book stack, a shallow dish and dark rounded vessels finish the visible end of the shelf. I’d keep those smaller pieces just as understated.
book stacks and a little clock
The book lovers are going to love this! A tall stack with the page edges facing out holds a round clock and a patterned vase.
The deep red candle adds a little color beside all those tan pages. If you try candles near a book display, choose flameless ones.
three vases of feathery stems
I am obsessed with these brown and muted green vases. The feathery stems and round leaves look so pretty together, especially with the tallest arrangement in the middle.
This display is on a console rather than a fireplace. Borrow the vase grouping for a deep mantel, or try just one smaller arrangement if your shelf is narrow.

paired botanical pictures
Don’t want to go overboard with your mantel decor? No problem! Two framed botanical pictures and a few small pale objects make up this simple shelf.
I love how the taller flower arrangements sit on the cabinets beside the fireplace instead. It’s a lovely way to include larger stems without crowding the mantel.
black and white family photos
Make your favorite photos the main decoration with this black-and-white display. One large portrait sits in the middle of the dark shelf, with smaller pictures grouped on either side.
You can mix frame sizes while keeping the photos in the same tones. That little leafy sprig on the right is a pretty extra touch.
a leafy garland with pastel accents
How sweet are those little pastel eggs? This is a spring mantel rather than a year-round arrangement, with eggs tucked into greenery beneath a black round mirror.
For the rest of the year, leave out the eggs and keep the vase, framed botanical picture and tall candleholders. I’d shorten the hanging greenery too if the fireplace is in use.
a bowl of green and neutral spheres
This bowl is so cute with its mix of green, cream and gray-brown decorative spheres. Some have leafy surfaces while others have open crisscross patterns.
It’s shown on a table, not a mantel. Try a smaller, shallower version on your shelf if you like the idea, making sure the whole bowl sits within the edge.
trailing heart-shaped leaves
I love this leafy plant against the carved white fireplace. The long stems and heart-shaped leaves hang from a brown pot beneath a gold-tone mirror.
For an unused fireplace, this is a pretty way to let one plant do most of the decorating. If yours is working, move the trailing growth away from the opening and heat.
pale vases and a simple frame
If you want something super simple, this one is for you. A pale framed piece sits on the brown mantel, with feathery stems on the left and two rounded vases on the right.
There’s no need to fill the empty space above it. I’d leave this arrangement just as quiet.
a landscape above an empty shelf
Don’t want any objects on the mantel at all? This image offers a lovely idea: a landscape in a wide gold-tone frame, matching wall lights and a completely clear shelf.
The picture light above the artwork is a detail worth borrowing. You can give your fireplace a finished look without adding a single vase.
blue vases and pink accents
Last but definitely not least, we have this colorful mantel. I am in love with the bright blue stemmed holders and rounded vases!
The pink fan-shaped decoration and white branching ornament look so pretty beneath the faceted mirror.
Try a little blue and pink if neutral decor isn’t your thing. You can repeat those colors in nearby flowers or a cushion, just like this room.
